  2. Mission Statement • Enable parents to help their children with math.

  3. Topics of Discussion • Parents Role • Study Habits

  4. Parents Role • Help your children establish good study habits • Quiet, comfortable place • Have your child explain examples from the book and their notes to you. • Check your students work. • Check odd answers in book • Check for completeness for evens

  5. Parents Role • Have your students study for tests and quizzes. • Make sure study guides/toolkits are complete • Select practice problems from the homework for them.

  6. Take an Active Role • Giving your children a sympathetic ear and a sounding board will encourage your students to keep trying.

  7. Study Habits • Pay attention, take notes • Do math homework right away • Be organized • Form study groups • Take breaks when frustrated • Use class notes and examples from book

  8. Study Habits • Try every problem. If you get stuck move on to the next question, but don’t give up. • Don’t be afraid to make mistakes. Sometimes we learn more from our mistakes than our successes. • Show work • Don’t erase your mistakes • Try something anything

  9. Study Habits • Study for tests and quizzes • Complete practice tests, study guides and toolkits • Review problems from the homework and past quizzes • Read notes • Ask questions and get help!

  10. After the Test • Test Retakes • Test and Quiz Corrections • FHS Test Policy • Most teachers keep tests • Sometimes teachers allow students to make corrections for points. • Even if points aren’t offered teachers allow students to go over their tests in their classrooms at lunch or after school.
