  3. BB GAP BB GAP is the acronym for the Balfour Beatty - Group Audit Protocol. The objectives of BB GAP are: • To provide assurance to the Balfour Beatty Board and to OpCo management teams that SHEQ is being managed effectively • To maintain certification to OHSAS 18001, ISO 14001 and ISO 9001, as a by product of the BB GAP audit process • To encourage and assess progress beyond certification, and to facilitate benchmarking.

  4. What does BB GAP encompass? The protocol comprises of 14 elements 1 – Leadership 2 - Organising for SHEQ 3 - Customer Focus 4 - Design Management 5 - Risk Management 6 - Operational Planning & Control 7 - Competence Management 8 - Supply Chain Management 9 – SHEQ Communication & Consultation 10 – Documentation 11 - Measurement and Monitoring 12 - Accidents and Incidents 13 - SHEQ Audit 14 - Continual Improvement

  5. How are these audited? Questions are statements that are converted at audit into questions. Number 1.1.4 “The organisation has set out its vision for achieving quality goals and objectives” Becomes "Has the organisation set out its vision for achieving quality goals and objectives?”

  6. How are these scored • Each question is weighted as to its importance • For example 1.1.4 "Has the organisation set out its vision for achieving quality goals and objectives?” is scored out of a total of 20 points • Not Evident (0) • Partly Evident (5) • Evident (10) • Mostly Evident (15) • Fully Evident (20)

  8. Other question types This is a “Yes / No” type question and can score 5 for each “yes”

  10. How do the questions relate to the Standards? Every question is cross referenced to paragraphs in the standards In this case 18001 - 4.4.1 14001 – 4.4.1 9001 – 5.4.2

  12. 6 levels are defined Level 0 – where an organisation has no certification to HS, E or Q Level 1 – where an organisation is certified to one or two of the following : • ISO 9001 Quality • ISO 14001 Environment • OHSAS 18001 Health & Safety Level 3 – BBGAP Audit covering System Certification to internationally recognised management standards : • ISO 9001 Quality • ISO 14001 Environment • OHSAS 18001 Health & Safety

  13. 6 levels are defined Level 4 – BBGAP Audit covering Level 3 and Balfour Beatty company requirements : • BB Health & Safety and Environment Policy Statements • BB Expectations for Managing Health and Safety • BB Group Framework for Opportunity & Risk Management • BB Group SHE Standards Level 5 – BBGAP Audit covering Level 4 and good practice reference standards : • ISO 9004:2000 • ISO 14004:2004 • OHSAS 18002:2008 Level 6 – Beyond Balfour Beatty Group requirements shown in Level 4 into demonstrable good practice

Question Classification Each ‘question’ has been classified as ‘Process’ to indicate whether the ‘question’ relates to the existence of a policy, process or approach ‘Implement’ to indicate the effective communication or fulfilment of management system inputs and outputs such as policy, objectives, processes, contractual requirements, improvement and results etc.
