Requirement for graduation – Masters in Computer Science • 34 credits • = 11 courses + 1 credit of COMP 7950 (Computer Science Seminar) • Required courses : • COMP 6601 (Models of Computation) • COMP 7950 (Computer Science Seminar): Must be taken at the second semester • A project (COMP 7980) or Thesis (COMP 7996) course

  11. Requirement for graduation – Masters in Computer Science • Area requirement: • Courses are divided into areas like • Computer Networks • Artificial Intelligence • Software Systems • Databases • Students are required to take 2 courses each in 3 of these areas

  12. Admission requirements– Masters in Bioinformatics • Masters/PhD degree in biological sciences • GRE scores • 2 letters of recommendation • Minimum 2.5 GPA • TOEFL scores for non-English speaking students

  16. Masters in Electronic commerce • A parallel focus on Computer Science and commerce • Pre-requisites: Calculus I, Discrete Math, Management, Marketing, some programming language • Degree consists a mixture of CS and business courses

  18. Requirements for graduation – Ph.D. in Computer Science • 72 credits • 36 credits if you have an approved Masters degree • Qualifying exam within the first 2 years • At least 2 areas of coursework • Comprehensive exam and dissertation proposal • Dissertation defense

  19. Application procedure • Electronic application available at: http://academics.memphis.edu/gradschool/elecapplic.html • Application fee: $35 for domestic students, $60 for international • Deadlines: • Spring 2006: December 1st • Summer 2006: May 1st • Fall 2006: July 1st

  20. Fees • Fees as of 2005-06 • In-state: $338 per credit • Out-of-state: $431 per credit

Financial aid/assistantships • Financial aid is available! • 25% of our students are supported by graduate assistantships in the department • Another 25% are supported by graduate assistantships from other departments/unit in the University • Include tuition and salary • Teaching, labs management and/or research assistance • Other fellowships also available
