  1. South Park

  2. Introduction to the show. • South Park first aired 13th august 1997 and was created by Trey Parker and Matt Stone originally meant just for the viral media. The show is about 4 children called Stan, Kyle, Kenny and Cartman, who on numerous occasions get them selves into to Ludacris situations. I chose South Park as my chosen show because I personally like the crude immature humour; I find it casually funny and good to watch while relaxing.

  3. Primary research. • In the Primary research we made a survey and asked 14 people. We asked 7 males and 7 females. In the survey they were, five 16 year olds, five 17 year olds, two 18 year olds and two 20 or older candidates.9 people liked the show and 5 didn’t like the show.On a scale of 1-10 the majority of people rated the show a 7-10.The survey told us that the majority of the people liked Kenny the most with 6 votes to him.

  4. Secondary Research • We found out secondary research from a website called ‘BARB’. BARB is a site that collects the viewing rates of programs and channels that are on TV. • We used the BARB website by going through the top 10’s of Comedy Central to find out how many views South Park got within a month between March & April. • South Park was first aired on the 23rd March 1998 on Sky, it then appeared on Channel4 four months later. I found this information about the first episode being aired; ” Cartman get an anal probe” from ‘http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20070509204805AADSPcB’ and ‘http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/South_Park’. • On the 23rd march 2012 at 22:02pm & 22:29pm, South Park reached a total viewing rate of 370,00 views on Comedy central. • On  the 30th of March 2012, South Park reached a viewing rate of 183,000 views on Comedy Central. • On the 6th of April 2012 at 22:01pm, South Park reached a viewing rate of 241,000 views on Comedy Central. • Between the 9th & 15th of April 2012, South Park reached a viewing rate of 294,00 views on Comedy Central. • Between the 20th of April 2012, South Park reached a viewing rate of 193,00 views on Comedy Central. • ‘http://www.barb.co.uk/report/weekly-top-programmes?’

  5. Typical Audience Member • For our typical audience member we basically thought up what our own idea of a typical South Park audience would look like, We looked at the type of humor that South Park has and the type of stereotypical people would follow South Park. • We aged the audience as being between 16 and 25 years old, we said the minimum age as 16 because although South Park is a cartoon; it still has humour and certain topics mentioned which would be quite inappropriate for younger viewers, also we said 16 because with some of the jokes that are mentioned you’d have to be quite mature to understand that it is a joke and not to take it seriously. We say that the maximum age would be 25 because South Park can be immature at times and as people grow up a bit more they won’t be as humoured by South Park because their taste in programmes and jokes would be more mature than it use to be when they were a teenager. • We said that the typical gender of the audience would be more male than female. I say this because most of the characters are male and the jokes tend to be more male dominate. Also females tend to find silly jokes more unappealing than a man would. W decided to go for male even more because you would more likely see a man sitting down and enjoying South Park more than a woman. • I’d say that the audience would be Middle to Low class of people rather than Upper class people. We say this because South Park is quite a down to earth cartoon which shows the actual reality of life living as a Middle or Low class person, by showing some the situations they get into throughout everyday life, such as living on the streets if you’re a very low class and doing a Middle\Low class job such as a school teacher or a receptionist. Also South Park seems to concentrate on the current politics and world affairs, like who’s President and things such as the wars going on in the world.

  6. Typical Audience Member Continued • The ethnicity of the audience would be White rather than any other ethnicity because it just seems like it doesn’t really attracts Black or Asian people, I don’t understand why cause even though I’m Black I still occasionally watch South Park. Also they don’t tend to have many ethnicities on the program but overall I’d say that South Park Is targeted at all ethnicity’s but more White people would watch it rather than any other ethnicity. • For the sexuality of the audience for South Park, I’d say it’s mixed but at the same time it would drift more towards the sexuality of being straight. I say this because South Park just seems to be more attracting and more advertising to the straight community rather than the gay or bi-sexual because I’ve noticed that there’s quite a few jokes targeted at people who aren’t straight.
