  2. Who done it? • Heron of Alexandria was first to come up with the idea to use steam as power • 1711- Thomas Newcomen improved the engine • 1769- James Watt perfected Newcomen’s model & then patented the engine James Watt Thomas Newcomen Aeolipile

  3. Why was it made? • James Watt invented the steam engine to help power the Industrial Revolution • He was also assigned to repair Newcomen’s engine at the University of Glasgow

  4. What it was used for? • Steam engine was used for boats, trains and other means of transportation • The steam boat helped transportation of goods up and down rivers • The train also helped the transportation of goods across land

  5. Where was it invented? • The first practical steam engine was invented in Glasgow, Scotland • The steam engine has been used all over the world

  6. When was it invented? • 1769 when the steam engine was patented by Watt • Help from previous inventions it help Watt make a suitable steam engine

  7. How has it effected us? • Steam Engine helped the economy grow • Helped the development of towns • Helped factories produce more product in a less amount of time • It made farmer easier
