  2. How hold the padle • The game of table tennis started as an after-dinner game for upper-class Victorians in the 1800s. Now it is a popular game that is played either professionally or for fun among friends. Before you try your hand at table tennis, you should know how to hold your tennis paddle. The shakehands grip--named for the resemblance it has to shaking someone's hand--is the most basic of the table tennis grips and can be used for both forehand and backhand tennis strokes.

  3. Where to serve (singles) • In singles serve from the right side first and then swap to the left hand side.

  4. How to serve (doubles) • In doubles after each serve swap sides with your partner.

  5. Forehand shot • For a right handed player hold the bat close to the right hip and follow through.

  6. Backhand shot • In this shot make a 90 degrease angle with your arm and follow through until arm is straight.

  7. Topspin • Like a forehand but you bring the bat over the ball.

  8. Backhand slice • This one goes under the ball just stab at it not to hard otherwise you will miss it.
