SS.3.2.4 2007 Functions of Government : Explain that the United States has different levels of government (local, state and national) and that each has special duties and responsibilities.

  5. Local Government • The local government is below the state government • There are different levels of local government: county, city, and/or town • The powers and responsibilities of cities and counties are different in each state.

  13. What is State Government made up of? • State and local governments work together to run schools, police departments, libraries, and parks • State governments are divided into 3 different branches just like the national government: Executive, Legislative, and Judicial

  14. State Branches • Executive: • The governor is the leader of each state government. • Legislative: • This branch makes the state laws and handles the state money. • Judicial: • This branch is made up of a supreme court and lower courts.
