  3. Req. Materials – due Friday • Pencils and highlighters – no pens at all! • Composition book – no rings or tear-out pages (journal-style) • Three-ring binder for this class • Tab dividers • Loose-leaf paper • You’ll get to decide how to organize your binder

  4. Required Access • Internet • Word processer • PowerPoint-type program • Printer • If you do not have access to any of these, have a parent contact me in writing by Friday 8/1

  5. Classroom Rules & Policies

  6. Class Rules • Respect: yourself, your teacher, your classmates, and your classroom. • Leave negativity and “baggage” outside. • Be prepared and on-time. Bring all materials and assignments with you. • No food, chewing gum, or drinks. • Follow directions the first time they are given. • ALL school rules apply in this classroom.

  7. Dress Code • All uniforms come from Educational Outfitters in Cary • Shirts are to be tucked in • Pants worn around waist with a belt • Skirts are to be no shorter than 2” above your knee • Only white undershirts allowed

  8. Dress Code • School approved sweaters or sweatshirts: • solid navy • Socks: white, navy, black • Tights: white, navy, black, brown, tan • No open back shoes, sandals, or platforms and correctly laced • Necklaces at least 18” and are not visible

  9. Dress Code • Hair should be neat and not an unnatural color • Men’s hair is out of the face and not below the collar • Ladies may only wear 1 post-style earring per ear • “No sunglasses, hats or caps, visors, or headgear of any kind are to be work at any time on school grounds.”

  10. Emergency Procedures • Fire – exit right and then turn left; cross the parking lot • Weather – sit against wall on either side of classroom • Earthquake – sit on floor away from projector • Lockdown – sit silently out of view of windows

  11. Electronics Policy • EWA policy is that your electronics are to be turned off and out of sight in the classroom. • You may be asked to bring a laptop, tablet, or other electronic device to class. • You may only use these electronics when given permission by the teacher.

  12. Electronics Policy • 1st Violation – Warning • 2nd Violation – Teacher takes device until end of class • 3rd Violation – Teacher takes device until end of the day, parents will be notified • 4th Violation – Teacher takes device until parent picks up the device

  13. Cell Block Tango • Optional place to store phones so they’re not tempting to use during class • You’ll be assigned a number for the storage area to place your phone • Parents should call the office to communicate with students during the day – even if you’re talking to a parent, your phone will be taken.

  14. Food and Drink • ONLY water is permitted in the classroom. • No open food or drink is allowed in the classroom. • Drinks from restaurants must be thrown away. • NO chewing gum. • If a medical condition exists, please have a parent contact the school in writing.

  16. Starting Class • Place bags at back of classroom • Circle up • Check board for any instructions • Count-Off • We’ll do some kind of physical warm-up every day and sometimes a written warm-up

  17. Tardiness • If a teacher holds you over, have them call or send a note – otherwise, your tardiness is unexcused! • After your 3rd tardy, you’ll get detention • You will not be able to go back to that teacher to get a note, so come prepared!

  18. Absences from Performances • Need to know about a week in advance • You’ll know when performance days are • A doctor’s note is required if your absence is a “surprise” • Have parents contact me in the event of extenuating circumstances – this is really important!!

  19. Turning in Assignments • 1st Period – Top bin w/green star • 3rd Period – Middle bin w/red star • All assignments get turned in to inbox unless I tell you otherwise • You will not be allowed to print assignments from the classroom.s

  20. Late Work • Lose 20 points per day • 5 days to turn in • Don’t get to make it up after that 5 day period is over

  23. Acting Night • Required performance for all students • Thursday November 13th at 6:30pm • Takes place in Eagle Hall • FREE! • Rehearsal on the day of the performance is required! • You’ll get dinner provided for you • If you have a conflict, list it on the syllabus before turning it in!!

  24. Grading Breakdown Overall Grade Quarter Grades 35% Class Participation 20% Performances & Tests 20% Acting Journal 15% Homework 10% Play Critiques • 40% First Quarter • 40% Second Quarter • 20% Acting Night • This counts as your “final exam”

  25. Class Participation • Can earn up to 10 points per day • Totaled up at the end of every two weeks • If you’re not here (short week, absent, etc.) those points don’t count against you • Loose points for inappropriate or distracting behavior

  26. Extra Credit • Opportunities for extra credit will come throughout the semester • Point values and where the points go will vary based on the assignment • Please don’t come asking for extra credit

  28. Review Expectations • Come to class prepared! • Give 100% during class without distraction. • If it’s not yours, don’t touch it. • Be proactive! Think ahead! • Keep a positive attitude. • Remember – you’ll get as much as you give.
