  1. 2-6 Formulas Objectives: To solve for a given variable in a formula

  2. Example 1 Solve for E. IR = E E = IR

  3. Example 2 Solve for h. b b

  4. Example 3 Solve for L. P = 2L + 2W -2W -2W P – 2W = 2L 2 2

  5. Example 4 Solve for x. Y = 5x + 7 -7 - 7 Y – 7 = 5x 5 5 x = Y – 7 OR 1/5 (Y-7) 5

  6. Example 5 You can use the number of chirps n a cricket makes in one minute to estimate the outside temperature F in degrees Fahrenheit. Transform the formula F = n/4 + 37 to find the number of chirps in terms of temperature. How many chirps per minute can you expect if the temperature is 60˚F? F = n/4 + 37 -37 = -37 F-37 = n/4 multiply both sides by 4 n = 4 (F-37) OR n = 4F - 148 Now use your equation and plug in 60 for F to find the number of chirps. What did you get? 92 chirps per minute

  7. Extra Practice Turn to pg. 113 and 114 in your book. You are doing 2-28 even for homework. We’re going to do the first one of your homework problems together. 2.)
