Latest progress on IBL Mock up structure As a recall… • After a meeting held with WG#3 group in early December 09, • it was agreed : • To speed up the CAD work (Gerard has taken up this task…to propose a mature • design by end of January 10) • To clearly define who is responsible of what…CERN/UNIGE • To work on sub parts (Central frame / 2 End frames) • To deliver to CERN , first, the End frames (holding the end plates, • with cable trays…CERN work package). • - UNIGE is still in charge of providing the 3 sub parts (Central, and 2 End frames) In early January… • A meeting was held in UNIGE (Raphael, Iourri, Gerard, Franck) to make a status • on the latest design by Gerard. • It ended up with a visit of our workshop (welding facility) to check a few things: • - Availability (OK, 5 to 6 weeks needed to build up the 3 frames. • Feasibility of doing the central frame in a full length (6.5m Max, welded beams) • No painting will be done by UNIGE (CERN OK) • CERN Transportation/handling to be checked soon!   3. Latest progress on IBL Mock up structure First, foreseen in 3 sub parts…. Evolution to a more detailed approach « GB » working… Central part (as a single part): 6,63m long, 600 Kg CERN Meeting- 19, Jan. 10

  4. Latest progress on IBL Mock up structure Central part has been extended to 1m on IBL area both sides: -To accommodate with suspension mechanism support ring (missing here) -To keep some flexibility /mock up evolutions (?) Additional ring for suspension mechanism CERN Meeting- 19, Jan. 10

Parts to be delivered @ CERN (by UNIGE) As it is shown below… Everything to assemble precisely the End plates + IBL+ toolings 130 Kg each (60x60mm beams) 600 Kg (80x80mm beams) CERN will provide the equippment (suspension mechanism, Beam Pipe mockup, Pixel Support Tube mockup, …) CERN Meeting- 19, Jan. 10

Practical info / 2010 Schedule • Availability @ UNIGE from mid February to start with frame productions • (if decided/approved within the next 2 weeks) • Batch1: Delivery of the 2 end frames first (by mid March 10) • Batch2: Delivery of the central frame (by mid April 10) Nota: Batch 1 will trigger the equipment of end plates @ CERN (more urgent, a lot of detailed to be fixed onto the end plates) Question: when do we start with Bldg 180 preparation to accomodate with the mock up ? Remarks: • Still need to work on a BP mock up • This Mock up is really mandatory to check all the IBL aspects (test, validation, training,…). In many ways, CAD is not sufficient to get feelings.
