Solid waste management Ecotourism Literacy After-School Activities Pollution Gender Awareness Organic Gardening Youth Outreach Staff Development Child Development Health HIV/AIDS Education What is your community concerned about? On your handout, list the broad concerns of your communities (school, centers, organizations, etc.). Examples:

  11. Now decide on the three most urgent issues out of the list you have written.

  12. Now, considering these three issues, you and your partner will choose ONEto design your project around. But before you choose, it’s important to think about:

  13. Things to keep in mind… • Urgency of Needed Change • Level of Community Interest • Available Resources • Impact of Change (Cause-Effect Results) • Scope/Complexity of Dealing With Issue • Risk • Links to other projects (Is there already a similar project being done in your community?)

  14. Priority Issue Identification Take 10 minutes to discuss and decide on your priority issue in your counterpart - PCV teams.

  15. What is a VISION? • Vision: Defines where the organization wants to be in the future. It reflects the optimistic view of the organization's future; it is a source of inspiration; it provides clear decision-making criteria.

  16. Project: Reading Comprehension For Cotabato North Elementary School to have the highest literacy rates in the province!

  17. Project: Teen Livelihood For the residents of Shepherd’s Boys’ Home to be economically productive and self-reliant individuals.

  18. Project: Insert CRM example

  19. What makes a good VISION? • Paint a vivid and clear picture, not ambiguous • Describing a bright future (hope) • Memorable and engaging • Realistic dream, achievable • In line with organizational values and culture • Example: For Cotabato North Elementary School to have the highest literacy rates in the province!

  20. What makes a good VISION? For Balanga to have a healthy and well protected marine eco-system with abundant sea life. To fix the problems the marine eco-system faces in Brgy Diwa, Balanga. GOOD! Bad! But why?

  21. What makes a good VISION? To have a healthy and happy citizenry that fears God, loves their family and abides the law. For all residents of Baco, Oriental Mindoro to receive quality health care. How can we make it better? Better!

  22. VISION • Focusing on your priority issue, imagine the future you want for your organization or community. • Take 10 minutes to create a vision. Copy it onto your worksheet below your priority issue.

  23. Project Design Key Questions

  24. Get Your Vision On You have a clear vision. Now what? How do you make your vision a reality?

  25. After the Vision: Assets and Project Ideas

  26. Objectives: By the end of this session, participants will be able to: • Generate project ideas based on their vision and assets • Prioritize ideas and determine the best project based on community assets

  27. Remember those Assets? Now, identify existing resources that will help make your dream come true: • Physical resources things like libraries, coral reefs, forests, children or youth centers, churches, town plazas • Groups such as civic organizations, NGOs, government services, and businesses • Individuals like teachers, community leaders, fishermen, social workers, students

  28. Brainstorming In your pairs: Brainstorm all possible project ideas for achieving your vision.

  29. Narrowing Your Focus • Consider your list of project ideas • Choose the four best ideas • Copy onto ‘Project Ideas’ worksheet

  30. Top 4 Project Ideas • Now evaluate the 4 ideas and rate them from 1-4 based on the following criteria:

  31. Criterion 1 Is the project appropriate for your community? 1 - not appropriate … 4 - very appropriate

  32. Criterion 2 Will it be sustainable? 1 - non sustainable … 4 - very sustainable

  33. Criterion 3 What will it cost? Too much? 1 - high cost … 4 - low cost

  34. Criterion 4 Will it benefit a large number of people? 1 - small number of people … 4 - high number of people

  35. Does it interest the community? 1 - no interest … 4 - lots of interest Criterion 5

  36. Total Them Up! Add the column numbers across (CRITERION 1 + CRITERION 2…) to get your total for the rating of each project idea. Whichever rating is the highest is probably the project idea that is most suited for development for your community, based on its assets and needs. This will be the project idea you develop for the rest of this workshop
