  3. Let’s Reveal What Makes Us Super • This year's theme  “I WANT TO BE A SCHOOL SAFETY SUPERHERO...”  focuses on building-up the self esteem of the students in your school. From Superman to Captain America most Superheroes started with problems or issues and turned their uniqueness into a power or force.  They used their power for the  betterment of society.   The focus is on the word SUPER and qualities necessary to be a SUPERHERO at school, while working toward an environment free of Bullying, Cyberbullying, Harassment and Conflict.  • S-Strong, U-Understanding, P-Powerful, E-Encouraging andR-Respectful, by using these character words to teach and describe our students, they can become School Safety Superheroes

Strong • The most recognized superhero in pop culture, Superman has been elevated to mythic folkhero status. • Rocketed to Earth from the dying planet Krypton, the baby was found by a farming couple who named the boy Clark Kent and raised him as their own. Discovering his enormous powers, they instilled in him strong moral values—and inspired him to become a hero. • How can we be strong and make good choices…

  5. Strong and Resilient • Resilience is the ability to bounce back from adversity. (Superman did) • It is a necessary skill for coping with life’s inevitable obstacles and one of the key ingredients to success. • With strength like a superhero you don’t just bounce back, but to bounce forward. (pay it forward)

  6. The X-Men are heroic misfits, individuals born with special powers who've sworn to use their gifts to protect everyone! • Realizing that everyone has a gift or talent and accepting them for who they are is a part of being SUPER! • How can we be understanding of others?

  7. Understanding and Empathy • Understanding others and the ability to have empathy for them is a SUPER skill. • Empathy is the ability to understand and share the feelings of another student/person. • Walk a mile in their shoes… • Being able to accept everyone and realizing that each of us has their own talent or skill • The Xmen had to learn to work together even though they were each very different

  8. From the beginning of his transformation, Peter Parker’s Motto was “ With great power comes great responsibility.” • How can we use our power to overcome conflict? To help others? Stop bullying?

  9. Who Does the Bullying? • Think it’s the big guy who wears black with low self-esteem? Could be…but it could be the petite cheerleader or the quiet honor student. • It’s not appearance that defines someone who bullies; it’s BEHAVIOR! Students who bully can be any size, age, grade or gender. • Those who are victims can rise above this…

  10. Jennifer Lawrence: • She struggled with mean girls, and says that in middle school, "this one girl gave me invitations to hand out to her birthday party that I wasn't invited to."

  11. Tom Cruise • Tom has said he was a victim of bulling at the hands of his father. He has "vowed" to be a great father so he will never make his children feel how he felt by someone who was supposed to love him.

  12. Jessica Alba • Jessica shared that she was bullied so badly as a young child that she had to be walked to school and eat her lunch in the nurses office. She also shared that she never wanted to "lower to their standards" so she wouldn't say anything mean back.

  13. Dark Knight, Caped Crusader…Batman • Because of Bruce Wayne’s sad childhood, Batman becomes a crusader against injustice to protect the innocent. Quote… • “It’s not who I am underneath, but what I do that defines me” • How can we encourage and reassurance others when they need help?

  14. Maya Angelou • I've learned that people will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel.

  15. Captain America is the living, breathing symbol of freedom and liberty. • He has respect for all things good. • Being respectful of others and treating them as we want to be treated is the Ultimate SUPER Power! • STOP, THINK, and RESPECT!

  16. Being Respectful • Be a part of a “Respectful School Climate” • This will support a climate that reduces the emotional and physical cruelty some children inflict up on each other by behaviors such as ridicule, bullying and-in extreme cases-violence.
