  1. Seismic Isolation System PrototypesSeismometer Pod IDR 12-23-03 Ref: 20008277-A

  2. Objectives • Present preliminary designs of the seismometer pods • Task 1 of the SEI Prototypes Implementation Plan (20008174-A) • Obtain technical concurrence that the preliminary designs are complete enough to begin HAM and BSC configuration tasks • External dimensions of pods • Interfaces to supporting structure • Estimated mass

  3. Agenda • Design Summary • Preliminary Pod Designs • Open Issues

  4. Design Summary • As presented in ASI’s value engineering presentation, ASI’s pod design concept was predicated on round vs. rectangular configuration • Take advantage of heritage UHV technologies • Conflat • Wire-Seal • Pod designs presented will be common to both HAM and BSC prototypes • Stage 1 • Single pod concept is now three (3) individual pods • Flexibility in packaging & alignment • Stage 2 • Single pod design similar to that presented at the value engineering presentation

  5. Preliminary Pod Designs – Stage 1 STS-2 • Design Assumptions • Mounting plane is based upon a 16.50” OD Conflat with rotating flange • Lock actuator design is based upon the revised locker database using “bolted” interface • STS-2 Electrical interface of uses a 90 degree connector • External UHV connection is a 4.50” OD Conflat

  6. 11.07 IN STS-2 POD 16.5” CONFLAT WEIGHT: 136 LB 16.5 IN

  7. STS-2 POD WITH L-4C 19.56” WIRE-SEAL

  8. Preliminary Pod Designs – Stage 1 L-4C • Design Assumptions • Mounting plane is based upon a 6.00” OD Conflat • Internal Electrical interface uses a Size 12 connector shell • External UHV connection is a 2.75” OD Conflat

  9. 6 IN 1.95 IN 8.85 IN L-4C POD 6” OD CONFLAT WEIGHT: 17 LB

  10. Preliminary Pod Designs – Stage 2 GS-13 • Design Assumptions • Mounting plane is based upon a 10.00” OD Conflat • Internal Electrical interface uses a Size 12 connector shell • External UHV connection is a 2.75” OD Conflat • Two pod styles: “top” and “bottom” mount • Selection of best style will be made during configuration task

  11. 10 IN 15.49 IN GS-13 POD 10” CONFLAT BOTTOM MOUNT WEIGHT 83 LB

  12. 10 IN 15.45 IN GS-13 POD 10” CONFLAT TOP MOUNT WEIGHT: 88 LB

  13. Summary • Open Issues • ICD Status • STS-2 • GS-13 • L-4C • Review Action Items (AI’s)
