  1. The Cell Cycle & Cell Division Key Concepts • Through the cell cycle, organisms grow, develop, replace old or damaged cells and produce new cells. • Before mitosis begins there is a phase known as Interphase. Interphase is the longest part of the cell cycle. • During Interphase the cell experiences rapid growth and becomes bigger, all organelles & DNA is copied. • Interphase gets the cell ready to divide.

  2. The Cell Cycle & Cell Division Key Concepts • In each body cell a human has 46 chromosomes or 23 pairs. • When cell division occurs, the new cells have combinations of new and old cell parts but are identical to the parent cell. • The amount of time it takes a cell to divide depends on the type of cell. • The nucleus and its contents divide during mitosis. • The cytoplasm and its contents divide during cytokinesis.
