  3. What will you do today? • You will identify interests and learn about college and career choices. • You will learn about taking advanced courses in middle school to prepare for high school, college and your career. • You will set a personal, academic and college and career goal.

Do you have goals? • YES NO • If YES, what is one goal? Do you know about middle school courses? • YES NO • If YES, what is one thing you know?

  5. Student Academic Planning Guide • Academic planning – involves making decisions about the courses you will take in middle school and high school to prepare for college.

  6. Why is academic planning important? • Earn high school credits in middle school (Algebra, Geometry, World Language I & II, World Geography). • Earn the advanced diploma when you graduate from high school.

  7. Why is academic planning important? • Earn college credits while in high school (Advanced Placement, International Baccalaureate, Dual Enrollment). • Earn scholarship money to pay for college. • Go to the college of your choice. • Have the career of your choice.

  8. Your Future • Let’s learn a little bit more about what you are interested in and what your goals are for the future. • What do you think you want to do when you get older? • Write your answer in your student academic planning guide.

  9. All About Me • What do you like the most right now? • Circle your answers. • You can circle more than one answer. • Draw your own answer if you don’t see it.

What is a goal? • A goal is something you set and challenge yourself to do. • We should all have goals and we should work on our goals each day. • Sometimes you set a short-term goal – it takes a short time to reach this goal. • Sometimes you can set a long-term goal – it takes a longer time to reach this goal.

  11. What are your personal goals? • Look back at what you like to do. • Where would you like to get better? • How can you do it? • Who can help you do it? • When do you want to do it?

What do you like to do at school? • Everybody has a favorite thing that they like to do at school. • What’s your favorite subject – circle your answer in your guide. • Reading • Math • Science • Social Studies • World Language • Fine Arts If you don’t see it there, draw your favorite thing to do at school.
