OBJECTIVES • To develop a reliable online notification system based on the “NotifikasiPenyakitBerjangkit yang PerluDilaporkan” or health 1 Rev form from Ministry of Health Malaysia known as RENS • To determine the usefulness of RENS in terms of mean days of notification done and the time of first contact tracing done • To determine the characteristics of notifiable infectious diseases managed in Hospital UniversitiSains Malaysia (HUSM) from January 2009 to December 2009 using RENS DR KAMARUL IMRAN MUSA : RENS

METHODOLOGY • Type : Cross-sectional study • Study duration : January 2009 – December 2009 • Software Development : • Source : Open Source • Model : based on ‘NotifikasiPenyakitBerjangkit yang PerluDilaporkan” form developed by Ministry of Health Malaysia • Data : web-based and client-based • Prototype : will be known as “Rapid Epidemiological Notification System” or “RENS” • Fields : 70-80 fields or variables DR KAMARUL IMRAN MUSA : RENS

Source of data • Records of patients from Unit Rekod admitted during study duration • Inclusion criteria • All patients diagnosed with notifiable infectious diseases based on on ‘NotifikasiPenyakitBerjangkit yang PerluDilaporkan” form developed by Ministry of Health Malaysia in HUSM • All patients diagnosed with notifiable infectious diseases based on on ‘NotifikasiPenyakitBerjangkit yang PerluDilaporkan” form developed by Ministry of Health Malaysia refered to HUSM DR KAMARUL IMRAN MUSA : RENS

Statistics • Data entry : “Rapid Epidemiological Notification System” or “RENS” • Data transfer : data need to be transferred automatically from RENS to statistical software such as SPSS or Stata using text-based format • Data analysis: • Descritptive • Inferential DR KAMARUL IMRAN MUSA : RENS

PROJECT OUTCOMES • RENS provide a minimum error of notification • RENS will replace the manual notification system • RENS will enable epidemiologist and ID physicians to have almost real time data of possible outbreak • RENS will enhance emergency preparedness in dealing with infectious diseases • RENS will be cheap but reliable compared to Window-based software • RENS can be implemented in all KKM hospitals and even in private hospitals DR KAMARUL IMRAN MUSA : RENS
