  2. Old versus new methods. The new methods are gaining ground in the AHSS, but the old still prevail.

  3. Social Sciences employed computers way back at the start of the 20th century: punch cards!

  4. Archaeology is also adopting lots of new technology. Recording the excavation site is of great importance…

  5. …and due to the treaty of Malta…

  6. …the number of excavations is sky-rocketing!

  7. The resulting data can be used in a number of ways, one of which is a 3D virtial representation of the site.

  8. Linguists are also looking for new ways to work with digital information. The text-bodies they want to work with double in size regularly.

  9. Three people from central america whose language is almost extinct.

  10. The Dobes database at MPI records these endangered languages for posterity.

  11. Two projects in the AHSS sector that are already dealing with these problems

  12. Both projects aim for a service oriented grid based architecture

  13. Unfortunately, there is a bit of a knowledge gap.

  14. My work for DANS and BiG Grid includes bridging this gap between technology and researchers

  15. We already have experience with uploading massive amounts of files for the RACM (archaeology).

  16. Although the grid can easily handle large streams, it has a problem with processing large batches of smaller files. Uploading individual files takes far too long. But in the end, grid support took care of the problem.
