  1. Dimensional Analysis (Big word, don’t get scurred! All it means is figuring out what stuff is worth.) If one pizza = 10 slices, how many slices is .5 pizza? .125 of a pizza? .5 x 10 Slices 1 .5 Pizza 10 Slices 5 Slices 1 Pizza

  2. Important things to know 5 g/mL = 5 g ml • Draw the bars • Math from left to right is multiplication • Math from top to bottom is division • Cancel each unit that is on the top and bottom. • A unit with a fraction can be split top to bottom • Do this process for all problems possible! • It will help you keep your units straight • Multiply by a conversion factor (form of one) • One pizza/10 slices = 1 because they are the same thing, and anything divided by itself is one. • Put the conversion factor so it cancels out what you want to get rid of

  3. Making a Conversion Factor (CF) • When using the metric system, use King Henry Doesn’t Usually Drink Chocolate Milk. (KHDUDCM) • Kilo (1000), Hecto (100), Deca (10), Unit (1), Deci (.1) Centi (.01) Milli (.001) • Always start with the biggest unit and count to the right. Every unit you move adds a zero. • Example - Kilo to Centi (5 moves) 1 km = 100000 cm (dk)

  4. P.S. Multiply by 10 Move decimal to right Extra practice -How many slices is .125 of a Pizza? .125 Pizza 10 Slices 1.25 Slices 1 Pizza P.S. Divide by 10 Move decimal to left -How many Pizzas is 1.25 Slices? 1.25 Slices 1 Pizza .125 Pizzas 10 Slices Put the CF where It will cancel out The units you want Conversion Factors can be flipped because both sides are equal.

  5. Supercool Double Conversions! • What is the density of a solid that has a mass of 4 kg, and a volume of 2 L? • Why convert them individually when you can do it all at once? = 4 kg 4 g 2 g 1000 g 1 L D = M/V 2 ml ml 1 kg 1 kg 2 L 1000 mL Don’t get caught with your pants down. Remember to put the denominator in the bottom.
