Conjugating Verbs. Spanish 1 2008-2009. In English…. Every verb in English has an “infinitive” form. The infinitive is 2 words in English. The first word is always “to”. To drink, to eat, to run, to play – are all infinitives The infinitive is the natural form of a verb.

  2. In English… • Every verb in English has an “infinitive” form. • The infinitive is 2 words in English. The first word is always “to”. • To drink, to eat, to run, to play – are all infinitives • The infinitive is the natural form of a verb.

  3. Sometimes we leave a verb in the infinitive… • I like to drink Dr. Pepper. • Santiago loves to eat pizza. • It’s hard to run everyday! • We don’t have to play Halo.

  4. Sometimes we change the verb based on the subject… • Instead of saying: “I to drink Dr. Pepper all the time.” • You say: “I drink Dr. Pepper all the time.” • What if the subject is she? • She to drink Dr. Pepper all the time. • No! • She drinks Dr. Pepper all the time. • We drink Dr. Pepper all the time.

  6. Using subject pronouns • In English we have to because the verb doesn’t change a lot. • Run a lot. • Who are you talking about?

  10. With a word mirar miro miramos miras miráis mira miran

  11. With a word contestar contesto contestamos contestas contestáis contesta contestan

  12. In a sentence… • Yo ______________ español. (hablar) • Nosotros ____________ las preguntas. (contestar) • La Sra. Jury ______________ la clase. (enseñar) • Los estudiantes _____________ buenas notas. (sacar) • Le gusta _________ la computadora. (usar)

  13. From English… • We take notes. • Tomamos apuntes. • I arrive early. • Llego temprano. • They study. • Estudian. • He teaches science. • Enseña las ciencias.
