  7. GEANT4 design Light yield effect on resolution one track vs two track (photon/pi0) separation. Simple reconstruction chisq fit of straight track position/angular resolution 50 GeV pi0 4-x, 2x + vertex last is overlapping X-view Y-view 3-y, 2y last is overlapping

  8. Plans • I think that the physics demands the γ/π0strips for everything but the dAu the problem is that dAu is not running for several years. What will run is pp, and AuAu and low energy stuff • AuAu- we have to do some physics - not just trigger • for pp, we need to get to low-x for ΔG • we can measure ΔG using photons, or π0's (or two π0's). We want to go to energies of the π0 or photons of about 25 GeV • how do we pay for it? • the calorimeter part (no γ/π0) - cost ~$2M - get this from BNL • the γ/π0 part which we need for ΔG - get from RIKEN (in perhaps 2011)- I hope this can be done for ~$2M • perhaps for now, we only build one side • This full device, I think can be defended and can get approved. • FULL simulations are now demanded by both BNL and RIKEN • that being said, I don't see why we can’t stage it. • we build, for $2M the calorimeter (no γ/π0) - as much as we can • We can do • peripheral Au (low energy π0, chic) • pp – chic • pp – W • dAu - lots of stuff • but VERY SOON AFTER (perhaps at the same time) we get the γ/π0 part in • perhaps we build both sides of the calorimeter part, and only equip one side with γ/π0 for now) This allows • photon-jet for pp - using both calorimeters, and the γ/π0 on one side • di- π0 for pp • n AuAu we get direct photons on one side • in dAu - we get the d going and the Au going sides - (lower energy π0's) • Target date: both calorimeter and γ/π02012 run.
