GRADUATE SURVEY of 2010 Graduates Montana State University-Billings College of Technology Radiologic Technology The primary goal of radiologic technology programs is to prepare the graduate to function as an entry level radiologic technologist. This survey is designed to help the program faculty determine the strengths and areas for improvement in our program. All data will be kept confidential and will be used for program evaluation and assessment purposes only. I believe more clinical time would be a benefit of the program. Possibly cutting some of the Christmas break out or the random holidays that take away from clinical time. I feel we received a great education through this program. We learned a lot to prepare us for a career as a Rad Tech, although there is still much to learn even after graduation. I was very thankful to have this opportunity. I am eager and motivated to begin my career as a technologist. Based on your work experience, please identify two or three strengths of the program? Comments : Being able to rotate through different areas of the hospital was definitely helpful. The review class was also beneficial, but maybe could be introduced earlier in the course. liked how the program was understanding to students who had to work full time through school. I have never held a job in x-ray, but I can say that the education I received is helping me in furthering my education. There was a great balance between didactic time and clinical time. If students needed help, they had plenty of people to turn to. Great clinical sites. Clinical instructors were awesome. Jayme and Mary really helped me feel comfortable as an up and coming technologist. The flexibility of class times with Mick was nice. Based on your work experience, please make two or three suggestions to further strengthen the program?Comments: More time could be spent in other modalities. Critique class could be introduced earlier. More little quizzes in lecture classes – helps students retain info longer. I believe it would be beneficial to students to have more homework. I feel many didn’t get as much out of their education as they could’ve. If there was required reading assignments and occasional quizzes. With a fast-track educational program, a lot of learning must be done on your own. Smaller class size due to the current job market. Make physics more fun. Allow more surgery rotations in clinicals. Throughout the course of the program, OR surgery is the area where I felt the weakest upon graduation. Where there qualities or skills expected of you upon employment that were not included in the program? Comments: Knowledge of Cerner(order entry) and PACS – but that is going to be different no matter where you go. As a student, I felt it was hard to become efficient in the OR. Although I am not employed, I wouldn’t feel confident enough to accept a job that required me to rotate through the OR. Unable to answer fully as I have not yet worked as an RT in the field. I believe so, but have not begun my career as a technologist. Please provide comments and suggestions that would help to better prepare future graduates.Comments: Be active in clinicals!!! Be eager to learn. Take responsibility. Study saia for the boards – everything on the test you need to know can be found somewhere int hat book/online questions. Students may feel less burned out if they had clinicals every other days (such as M-W-F) + class every other day (Tues & Thurs). Three straight days in clinicals tends to become a little overwhelming.

She has done a great job picking up on this modality. 16. Comments: Less buddy system – more independence. Being a clinical site, it would be good for the student to realize that the time they spend here is important not only for their education but it gives us a chance to evaluate them and decide if they would be a good hire. The students should be aware that their clinical sites are sizing them up while they are here to see if they would be a good hire for us. The students should be aware that the time they spend at a clinical site is used by the site as a year long interview. We are able to assess the student to know if they would be a good hire for us. They are pretty well prepared. This program is doing a great job preparing students to be entry radiographers. Less of the buddy system What are strengths of the graduate(s) of this program? Very knowledgeable, can work independently, good skills. One of the better grads. One of the strengths that pertains to Billings Clinic is that we are one of the clinical sites so the graduates are already familiar with our equipment and procedures. One of the strengths that pertain to Billings Clinic is that as a clinical site for the COT, the students are familiar with our equipment and procedures and know they are interested in coming here as an RT. One of the strengths that pertains to Billings Clinic is that as one of the clinical sites for the COT students, the graduate already are familiar with our equipment and procedures and know if they are interested in coming here. Good RT base, which helps in the anatomical locations of scanning. They have good patient care skills and are willing to adapt to new surroundings.
