  3. Breaking New GroundMcGill’s IMHL Program • is a unique approach that concentrates the learning experience on key issues of participants and their respective organizations and communities • uses the classroom as a thoughtful forum of “friendly consultants” - colleagues and faculty - from around the world • is an innovative and tested educational model designed for the health sector • promotes the development of a sustainable and integrated approach to health worldwide encompassing health promotion, prevention and treatment • offers a Masters degree to senior and emerging practicing health leaders • is international in scope, and unlike any program ever offered in health

  4. Evolution of the IMHL concept • builds on two successful programs – the International Masters Program in Practicing Management (IMPM) and the McGill-McConnell Program for National Voluntary Sector Leaders – both inspired by Dr. Henry Mintzberg, named one of the most influential management thinkers in the world by the Financial Times • is designed around “leadership mindsets”, a dynamic model to explore different realms of management: the ability to transform people, organizations, systems and their contexts • offers a tremendous opportunity to develop health leaders at the worldwide level by drawing on the international expertise of McGill’s Faculties of Medicine and Management

  5. Participants Participants hold significant positions of responsibility. They are from: • all regions of the world • all types of health-related organizations (hospitals, community organizations, managed care and public health facilities, government ministries, etc.) • all manners of operating backgrounds prior to having entered managerial positions (physicians, nurses, other health professionals, etc.) • all areas of health, from prevention to care Participants continue to work throughout the program.

  6. Program DesignOverview • The learning is concentrated on the needs of participants and their respective organizations and communities • The program is delivered in five twelve-day modules over a 16-month period • Each module corresponds to a specific “leadership mindset” • Other educational activities include an anchoring project, managerial exchanges, reflection papers, personal tutoring, self-study and a final paper
