  2. 1 John 1:9-10,“If we confess our sins, He is faithful and righteous to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. 10If we say that we have not sinned, we make Him a liar and His word is not in us.”

  3. DoxologyPraise God, from whom all blessings flow;Praise Him, all creatures here below;Praise Him above, ye heavenly host;Praise Father, Son, and Holy (Ghost) Spirit.Amen.

  4. Prov 3:5,“Trust in the LORD with all your heart and do not lean on your own understanding.”

  5. Proverbs Chapter 14How we build up or tear down our home, vs. 2-5.

  6. Verse 2

  7. Verse 2“The fear or despising of the Lord.”

  8. “Walking in righteousness” means consistent application of God’s Word. It is honor and respect for His person, and His Word.

  9. The Contrast!

  10. The Contrast! When you do not respect God’s Word, you receive a mental attitude that is controlled by your sin nature; one that is crooked, perverse, and devious.

  11. Despising the Lord reveals contempt for correction and instruction, as well as for the Lord’s standards of truth and righteousness.

  12. The righteous have an intimate relationship with Him as they walk in fellowship with Him every day, Prov 3:32, applying His word to every situation of life.

  13. Prov 3:32,“For the devious are an abomination to the LORD; but He is intimate with the upright.”

  14. 1 Sam 15:22, “Samuel said, “Has the LORD as much delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices as in obeying the voice of the LORD? Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice, and to heed than the fat of rams”.”

  15. 1 John 2:6,“The one who says he abides in Him (Jesus Christ) ought himself to walk in the same manner as He walked.”

  16. Verse 3

  17. Verse 3“Foolish speech destroys you; yet wise speech protects you.”

  18. The verbal sins/sins of the tongue, that the reversionistic believer habitually performs is their way of life.

  19. “Rod” - CHOTER, חֹטֶר, “A branch, twig or rod.” Isaiah 11:1, “Then a shoot will spring from the stem of Jesse, and a branch from his roots will bear fruit.”

  20. It eludes to the discipline of the ruling authority, (i.e., Divine discipline and self-induced misery.)

  21. “Back” - a metaphorical use of GA’AWAH, גַּאֲָוה, “pride, majesty, or arrogancy.”

  22. The fool’s arrogance, displayed in his words, often gets him into trouble, cf. Prov 13:3; 18:6f, because he neither considers the effect of his words before speaking, cf. Prov 12:18; 15:1, nor attempts to control his tongue, Prov 18:2; 20:3.

  23. The Contrast!

  24. The Contrast! Righteousness leading to wisdom and good speech, (i.e., application of Bible Doctrine), protects our soul.

  25. The wise understand the power of words, Prov 18:21, and speak cautiously and appropriately, Prov 25:11, matching their words to the occasion and the needs of their hearers, Prov 25:12.

  26. Knowing how (and when) to speak, they guard themselves by their appropriate use of words which sometimes is deemed as being relatively silent, Prov 17:27f; 21:23.

  27. Verse 4

  28. Verse 4“Use what God has given you, and be industrious in life.”
