  2. Who is the Honey Mustard? • The Honey Mustard are the original concept creators of Generation Next. After four years of donated production services from BC Fashion Week, The Honey Mustard is taking control of show production and continuing as competition administrators. • The Honey Mustard is a media relations and fashion show production company for local, independent fashion designers across Western Canada. • The Honey Mustard has produced over 30 shows for clients as varied as the Vancouver Home and Interior Design Show, Granville Magazine, EPIC the Sustainable Living Expo, the Fashion Exchange Association and individual designers. • We believe in the philosophy of dressing locally and are committed to promoting fashion with a cause.

About Generation Next • Established in 2007, Generation Next is a competition for Western Canada’s most promising new design talent. • Generation Next has helped launch collections for such well known talent as: Nicole Bridger, Carny Love, Lara Presber, Elroy, Red Jade, Two of Hearts and last year’s winner Ella Peru. • Not only does Generation Next provide a composite fashion for our newest designers but it also sets the winning designer on the path to success with an amazing prize package! • Finalists and winners receive an amazing amount of media coverage to help introduce them to the consumer.

Past Generation Next Winners • 2006 Nicole Bridger • Her sustainable yet stylish line won her the very first title of Generation Next Designer. • Since winning the title she has gone on to maintain a highly successful brand which has graced the pages of publications such as Chatelaine, Lou Lou, Glow, Flare, Elle Canada and more! And won 1st place for Fashion Takes Action’s eco designer of the year 2010 • Nicole says: “Generation Next really helped us get noticed locally which was great for a brand just startingout.”

Past Generation Next Winners • 2007 Lara Presber • Architect-turned-designer Lara Presber won the judges over with her attention to detail and structured garments • Since winning the title Lara has opened her own boutique in Calgary’s Fashion Central • Lara says: “Above and beyond the exposure I gained from the competition, winning Generation Next equipped me with some much needed resources and tools which have had a positive long-term effect on the success of my line.”

  6. Past Generation Next Winners • 2008 Margarita Angelos for Red Jade • The second eco-designer to win Generation Next, Margarita received amazing coverage after her win including: The Metro, 24 Hrs, The Georgia Straight, Flare, and much more. • Margarita said of her win: “I’m so excited right now, I know that this will be a great opportunity for me. I’m really honored to have won.”

Past Generation Next Winners • 2009 Su-Hui Chu for Ella Peru • Su-Hui’s wowed the judges at the BCFW presentation with a cohesive and contemporary line composed of well tailored garments, easy to wear separates, and quirky colours and patterns. • Su-Hui quickly grabbed shelf space at many boutiques in Vancouver, Toronto, Ottawa and Montreal after her win. • Su-Hui says: “Generation Next has been amazing for getting my name out there! As a designer in my first year, I already have quite an impressive “press page” on the website…with more to add!”

  11. Do You Have What It Takes To Win? • Applications will be considered by a panel of industry professionals including retailers, fashion editors, photographer, designers, and sales reps. • Judges are looking for designers with a great aesthetic, well structured garments, marketable collection, and the business sense to back it all up. • You must have a minimum of three outfits for the initial judging; these can be from your Fall 2010 or Spring 2011 collection. • As a finalist you must have a full 10 outfit collection to showcase at Generation Next.

  12. What You Should Know Before Entering • Applications will only be accepted from those who have been in business for three years or less and have not had an individual runway presentation of their work. • Applicants must submit six samples (3 outfits) and all additional photos and look books from their most recent collection. • From all of the applications received 3 finalists will be selected • There is a $50 application fee

  13. Application Deadline, Judging and Show Dates • First judging: Friday August 6th 2010. • Finalist meet and greet judges: the week of August 23, 2010 • Generation Next fashion show: September 2, 2010 at Performance Works on Granville Island
