  2. Fibonacci’s Name • His real name is Leonardo of Pisa or Pisano. He got the nickname of Fibonacci when he started writing, like many authors do. • He got his last name “of Pisa” or “Pisano” because he was born in Pisa,Italy.

Fibonacci’s Sequence • Fibonacci’s sequence is 1, 1, 2, 3, 5, 8, 13, 21, 34, 55, 89, 144. • In Fibonacci’s famous sequence, each number is the sum of the previous two. • Fibonacci’s sequence can be found in his famous rabbit problem…If a pair of rabbits were put into a walled enclosure (room) to breed, how many pairs of rabbits will there be after a year if it is assumed that every month each pair produces one new pair, which begins to bear young two months after its own birth?

Facts About Fibonacci’s Life • Fibonacci was an Italian mathematician who lived c.a. 1120-1240. • He traveled a lot on business with his father and was exposed to many different mathematical techniques in arithmetic, algebra, and geometry, used throughout the world, which he collected in books for people to learn without having to travel the world. • Fibonacci also wrote a book called “Liber Abaci” which introduced Aribic numerals into European mathematics.
