  2. Westport, CT -- Following four months of evaluating numerous alternative venues and show formats after losing its location at the Fairfield Hunt Club, organizers have announced there will be no Fairfield County Concours d'Elegance this year. "Each venue we evaluated brought with it challenges and opportunities for an event of our scope, with regional reputation and headed for national repute. Ultimately, we concluded that (photo: courtesy Fairfield County none of the options enabled us to continue our Concours d'Elegance) steady growth over eight years and onward towards our greater goals," said event chairman Bill Scheffler. The concours grew rapidly from its inaugural 2004 show at Westport's Veterans Green to become one of the top auto and motorcycle events in the U.S. The 2007 move to the Hunt Club allowed for new exhibits, a full weekend of events and the addition of Bonhams' collector car and automobilia auctions in 2010 and 2011. Growing to more than 10,000 attendees last year found the event at the limits of the current venue. "We introduced a number of innovations to the concours scene, and took extra care to make the experience for the vehicle owners a pleasurable one," noted concours president and co-founder John Schuck. "One of our goals from the start was to welcome a new group of enthusiasts both young and old to our passion through education and the sharing of information." The Fairfield County Concours Consulting Group has been formed by the founders and management of the event, and is actively developing new concepts in vintage and motorcycle events, including providing educational essays on each vehicle, on-field tours led by experts, and integrating motorcycles and "barn-find" vehicles in the concours setting. Organizers stated that the next version of the concours, "to be launched in 2013, will continue the Group's commitment to displaying the best of the best." Over its eight-year span, the concours raised more than $100,000 for The Drive to Treat Autism Fund, in addition to working with local arts and children's organizations and charities, The Rotary Club, and local and regional car and motorcycle clubs.
