  1. At Mount Sinai, God gives Israel a New Identity… 1.) My Treasured Possession 2.) A Kingdom of Priests 3.) A Holy Nation

  2. Exodus 19: 9-25 God firmly impresses upon all of Israel His power and His holiness; arriving on Mount Sinai with thunder, lightning, smoke, and heralded by trumpet blasts.

  3. The 10 Commandments (Ex. 20: 1-17) 1.) Worship the LORD alone 2.) Make no idols to worship 3.) Do not misuse the name of the LORD 4.) Remember to keep the Sabbath rest 5.) Honor your father and your mother

  4. The 10 Commandments (Ex. 20: 1-17) 6.) Do not commit murder 7.) Do not commit adultery 8.) Do not steal 9.) Do not bear false testimony or lie 10.) Do not covet against your neighbor

  5. The 10 Commandments “Fun Facts” • The first 4 are God-focused, • while the last 6 are man-focused. • The 1st and the 10th Commandments • focus on what’s in the heart, • while the other 8 focus on outward • actions that began in the heart. • The 10th Commandment spends a lot • of time on “neighbor” language.

  6. Deuteronomy 6: 4-9 “The Shema” And God’s Mission of Love for All Generations

  7. Matthew 22: 36-40 “The Greatest Commandment(s) in the Law… According to Jesus”

  8. When tested with this question, Rabbi Jesus understandably answers first with The Shema from Deuteronomy 6. What is more surprising is that Jesus linksthis command to love God with the far-less known and less-enforced law from Leviticus 19:18 to love others as ourselves.

  9. “Knowing that legalistic slavery eroded our dignity and twisted our identity, Jesus directs us back to the very heartbeat of Sinai’s law… love. Because Jesus sees us as orphaned and abused people in need of love, he pursues our hearts with a fierceness that renews, restores, and revives our capacity for it.” - Chuck DeGroat, “Leaving Egypt”

  10. Romans 13: 8-10 8 Let no debt remain outstanding, except the continuing debtto love one another, for whoever loves others has fulfilled the Law. 9 The commandments… are summed up in this one command: “Love your neighbor as yourself.” 10 Love does no harm to its neighbor. Therefore love is the fulfillment of the Law.

  11. The MISSION of the Free Methodist Church: 1.) Love God 2.) Love People 3.) Make Disciples

  12. Matthew 28: 18-20 18 Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in Heaven and on Earth has been given to me.19 Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”

  13. Disciple-Making Expresses Love! * We show love to others, desiring that they should be saved from the wrath of Hell and experience the joy of holy living. * We show love to God by obeying Him, as well by declaring His glory to the world.
