Giving Away Land Starts Conflict • King Lear, in Britain retires and decides to give up the land to his three daughters, Cornelia, Goneril and Regan • They first have to marry to get land • Goneril marries Duke of Albany • Regan marries Duke of Cornwall • No land to Cornelia. • Earl of Kent tries to make Lear reconsider, gets banished • Becomes queen of France

  3. Family of Gloucester • Edmund, and Edgar sons of Gloucester • Edmund wants land of father’s and is greedy • Only competition is Edgar • He betrays his own family

  4. Problems with Daughters • Kent disguises himself, and is hired to help Lear • Lear runs from Goneril’s house thinks of going to Regan’s • Oswald, steward of Goneril gets in fight with Earl • King Lear goes to Gloucester castle, and Leaves again into the storm

  5. Helping King Lear? • The Jester, or the Fool is the only one who doesn’t leave and is loyal to King Lear • Kent sends people to Dove to Cornelia to get French Forces • Edgar appears as a madman and helps Lear • King Lear is insane, or going crazy

  6. Conflicts Occur… • Gloucester is captured by Cornwall and Regan • Takes out his eyeball with his bare hands • Gloucester’s servant kills Cornwall • Helped by Edgar, who is disguised as a begger named “Poor TOM” to Dover, where Lear is

  7. Love Problems • Goneril and Regan both love Edmund • Albany, Goneril’s vows revenge when he knows about his treachery of his wife and Edmund

  8. Not Few… A lot of Deaths • Oswald meets Edgar and Gloucester and is killed by Edgar • Lear meets Cordelia at the camp • Back at camp, Edgar tells the truth to Gloucester and the old man dies happy • Lear and Cordelia are captured in battle

  9. Continued.. • Edmund is killed by Edgar who arrives at the castle • Goneril poisons Regan, kills herself • Cordelia is hung and Lear is almost killed but Lear kills with his bare hands • King Lear dies in grief over Cordelia

  10. Moral • Something needs to be given up for the sins that are done • If the problems are solved quickly, then love may be lost and deathamayoccur

  11. Betrayal • Everyone gets betrayed • King Lear from his daughter • Glochester • Son Edmund • Husbands • Albany and Cornwall from wives

  12. Families Still Loves Wants to help Saves Loves Wants to Kill Lear Loves
