  2. INTRODUCTION It is a body Corporate constituted under Pakistan Medical & Dental Council Ordinance 1962 which was later amended through an act of Parliament in 1973

  3. COMPOSITION OF THE COUNCILPM&DC Ordinance 1962 Section 3(1)

FUNCTIONS OF PM&DC • Register Students of Medical & Dental Institutions • Maintain the Register of Medical & Dental Practitioners. • Prescribe a uniform minimum standard of courses of training for obtaining graduate and post graduate medical and dental qualifications. • Prescribe minimum requirements for the content and duration of courses of study. • Prescribe the conditions for admission of courses of training as aforesaid. • Prescribe minimum qualification and experience required of teachers for appointment . • Prescribe and standards of examinations methods of conducting the examinations. • Prescribe the qualifications, and experience required of examiners for professional examinations. • Approve Medical & Dental Institution for training of undergraduate & postgraduate qualification. • Inspection of undergraduate & postgraduate examination for standardization. • Code of Ethics for Medical & Dental Practitioners & cases against registered practitioners. •  Inspection and approval of Hospital for House Job. • Guidelines for Medical & Dental Journals.

INTERNATIONAL ACCREDITATION OF PM&DC STANDARDS The system of recognition/accreditation through inspection by PM&DC had also been reviewed by the National Committee on Foreign Medical Education & Accreditation (NCFMEA) of U.S. department of education appointed by U.S. Secretary of Education. NCFMEA has decided in March, 2003 that the standards used by PM&DC for accreditation of medical colleges are comparable to those used by the U.S.A.
