  1. Management 121Principles of Management-Spring 2013 Team Formation

  2. Reminders: Business Etiquette • Don’t be afraid to ask questions • Don’t be afraid to participate • Do turn off cell phones, etc. • Be on time and be prepared

  3. Group Introductions Introduce yourself to your teammates. Please share: • Your name, email address and phone number • A brief description of who you are- where you work, what classes you are taking, your general personality, etc. • Your values toward your school and work • Your expectations for your teammates (and yourself) • Your skills- include your strengths (and weaknesses) • Your role choice-do you prefer to be a leader or a team member?

  4. Email & Phone ___________________ ___________________ ___________________ ___________________ ___________________ ___________________ ___________________ Name: ___________________ ___________________ ___________________ ___________________ ___________________ ___________________ ___________________ My MGT 121 Group _______________

  5. 2 Truths and a Lie • Step 1: Write down 3 statements about yourself. Two should be true and one of them should be a lie. You have 5 minutes!! • Step 2: Take turns reading the 3 statements out loud. Vote on which is a lie, as the person reads all of the statements again. • Step 3: Ask the person to reveal the correct answer. Those who guessed correctly should mark their sheets for a correct guess. • Step 4: Once the groups are done, we will continue around the room, having each person read his statement and then we will vote. Mark down each time you make a correct guess. • Step 5: How many correct guesses did you have? The person with the most correct guesses at the end has won the game.

  6. 5 Stages of Group Development Bruce Tuckman (1965) developed the 4-stage model of group development.  He labeled the stages in an easy to recall, Dr Seuss-style. 10 years later, he added the 5th stage. 1. Forming: The group comes together and gets to initially know one other and form as a group. 2. Storming: Fighting for leadership & trial of group methods 3. Norming: Agreement is reached on how to operate 4. Performing: The group becomes effective in meeting its objectives and demonstrates its work 5. Adjourning: The process of "unforming" the group, that is, letting go of the group structure and moving on.
