Present Scenarioin rural schools • Only one water point – being used for drinking water & hand washing by number of students • Unclean toilets • No water in toilets • No proper hand washing facilities • long queue at one water point • No power supply • to operate water pump to lift water to over head tanks in case of power pump provision SIMPLE SOLUTION FORCE & LIFT HAND PUMP

Force & Lift pumpFEATURES • Adaptable to existing India Mark II and India Mark III installation. • Uses commonly available components for the adaptation mechanism. • Easy operation and maintenance. • Lifts water efficiently up to 100 feet above the pump's water tank level. • No power connection required • Also capable of delivering water at ground level, like standard hand pumps. • Standard tools for IM II & IM III sufficient for installation.

  7. Installation-1 • Replace top ms rod with SS rod • Replace threaded spout or threaded nipple welded spout • Make provision for water point at ground level • Fix non return valve on extended spout

  8. Installation-2 • Fix sealing gasket (rubber sheet) below third plate, on water tank to prevent leakage

  9. F & L pump Installation – 3 Replace third plate with modified plate having hub for holding gland rubber ring

  12. Installation-6 • Install water tank on supporting structure or on roof • Connect supply pipe from non return to water tank

  13. Always keep tap near HP spout in third plate level to keep gland bush always in water, it will improve its life.

Final Check list • All nuts & bolts are fully tightened, check nuts provided • Free movement of handle • No lateral play • Discharge minimum • Vlom65- 12 liter/40 stroke/minute • Vlom50- 10 liter/40 stroke/minute • IM II 32mm - 12 liter/40 stroke/minute • Check for leakage • Water tank is clean, chlorinated & properly covered • Collect water sample in H2S & examine for bacterial contamination

Operation &Maintenance of Pump • Correct handling will keep away breakdown • Operate HP gently giving long , slow strokes • Operate by standing on foot stand, gripping at end only, Do not bang the handle • Keep regular watch on gland rubber ring. Ensure no leakage near third plate & water taps • Prevent children putting anything inside, Keep platform & drain always clean • Inform village mechanic immediately if hp is not functioning properly

Preventive maintenance of pump • Operate pump & check discharge • Idle strokes not more than five • Note any major change in discharge • Check • HP stand firm on base • Handle – play in limit, not rubbing • Leakage from rubber gasket / gland packing /water taps • Grease the chain, replace gland rubber ring if required, replace washers for taps, clean head assembly • Tighten all nuts • Clean water tank on regular interval
