Mrs. Lozano and Ms. Zuniga MARCH National Nutrition Month ---------------------------- Spring Break 2014 March 10-14 --------------------------------- From the Teacher Facilitator’s Desk; ‘Oh The Places We Will Go’ Hello Parents! Nova Academy has begun making preparations for our students to take the state mandated test STAAR. Please make sure your child is at school daily to participate in the preparations and pre-testing for all grade levels. Continue to check your child’s backpack for homework and school news. It is important for you to be aware of your child’s progress. Thanks Again! Ms. Washington, M.Ed-Curriculum Facilitator From P.E. Parents, March activities will include Cardio Games, Jump Roping, and a Healthy Heart Focus. Each student will learn the importance of taking care of the Heart and what we need to do to live a long and prosperous life. Cardio Games will consist of competitive drills, and running games to improve daily health fitness.   2. A special note from the teachers!  KC Greetings Parents In Social studies we are learning about neighbors and the use of different tools. In Spelling we are using phonics to sound out our words. Ms. Taylor 1A Greetings from !A. In Reading we continue to work and emphasize reading comprehension, monitor: rereading strategy and predicting skills. In Language Arts we are learning past, present and future tense verbs, descriptive words and when to use is or are. In Math we are working on solving word problems, learning our subtraction facts and reviewing addition facts., Ms. McDowell 1B Hi Parents, In Math: We are learning to skip count by 2’s, 5’s and 10’s, even and odd numbers, place value patterns and identifying coins. Social Studies: Students will be able to explain how selected customs, symbol s, and celebrations reflect an American love of individualism, inventiveness and freedom. Language Arts: Alphabetize to the second letter, understand that words are arranged alphabetically, explain relationship between characters , the plot, and understand characteristics and literar4y forms of poems/limericks. Ms. Berry 2A Greeting Parents, In Science, we are studying the planets. In Social Studies, we are learning the importance of work. In Math we are learning to graph, measure and divide. Ms. Felts 3A Grade Greetings Parents, The Third Grade class is making significant progress toward the S.T.A.A.R. Test. With the tutoring program and your continued support, our students will be success. Ms. Caruthers ESL Parents, we are working on the following. Pre-K - We are currently working on the numbers from 20 to 29 and the letters S, T, and U. Kinder - classes are working on beginning sounds h, t, c, a, b and making three letter words with I, and e. First graders are working on Reading Readiness exercises, and rhyming words with the sounds /E/ and /u/. Second graders are taking an intense writing practice for TELPAS by writing stories in Social Studies, and Science. We are are also working on Inferences. Have happy Spring Break. Mr. Rodriguez Pre-K A and B Hello Parents, The Pre-K classes are working on simple addition and subtraction in math. In Spelling, we are working on the days of the week. Ms. Pleasant Ms. Saulsberry KA Greetings Parents, In Reading KA is continuing to work on our letters, sounds, and blending to make words. In Language we are recognizing story structure and understanding what we read. In Math we are learning all about graphs and how to interpret them. -Ms. Boyd KB Hello Parents, In Language, we will learn High Frequency words-are, for you; writing sentences and dialogue. In Reading; identify main idea and details, and summarizing; letters /h/h and /d/d and /r/r; word families –ad, -at-, -an, -ap; In Science, heat energy sources and how heat changes things; how we use technology and types of technology. In Math, probability and graphs, patterns, and place value. Ms. Warren
