  2. 3 Truths and a Lie • One of the following statements is not true – can you figure out which one it is? • Mrs. Mack’s favorite color is purple • Mrs. Mack has 3 children • Mrs. Mack drives a Jeep • Mrs. Mack has 2 dogs, 8 cats, 1 rabbit and a horse

  5. Class Expectations • Arrive on time • Keep hands, feet, and objects to self • Stay focused on lesson • Be prepared

  6. No, Not Now. • Do not text during class • No ifs, ands or buts! • Cell phones are not to be used as calculators • During class at all times, keep your cell phones, PSP’s, DS’s, IPods, CD players, cameras and every other electronic device in your back-pack or pocket.

  7. CHAMPS • C = conversation (Is talking allowed?) • H = help (How to get a question answered?) • A = activity (What is the task?) • M = movement (Is movement allowed?) • P = participation (What does appropriate behavior look like?) • S = Success

  8. Teacher Directed Instruction • C = No talking – Voice level 0 • H = Raise hand – wait to be recognized • A = Teacher directed instruction • M = Do not get out of seat • P = Listening to teacher – taking notes

  14. Entering Classroom • First - Write down the AGENDA into your planner. • Second - Complete the bell ringer assignment. • Third - Sit quietly and do NOT disturb others. • Remember - Class begins when you walk through the door.

  15. Hallway Behavior • Walking – not running • Talking – not yelling • Keeping hands, feet, and belongings to yourself. • Horseplay in the hallways will not be • tolerated.

  16. End of Period • The bell does not dismiss you • Wait for section/table to be called before leaving • Do not leave trash on floor or at table/desk

Absent • It is YOUR responsibility to find out what you missed! • Check “Absent” binder for appropriate period • Take copies of any worksheets/homework missed (complete and turn in) • Borrow a friend’s notebook to copy missed notes • See me after school (not during class) to set a time to make up any missed tests/quizzes

  18. Planners • Are Mandatory • You will not allowed out of the class if you do not have your planner.

  20. What if… • I don’t have a pen/pencil? • Try to borrow one from a friend • Borrow one from me (before class begins) in exchange for your backpack or planner • I forgot my planner? • You cannot leave the room during class • I forgot my binder? • Borrow paper from a neighbor to record notes.

What if… • I need to throw something away? • Hold it at your table until the end of the period then throw it out as you exit the room • I need to get a tissue? • Quickly and quietly get one from the counter without disturbing the class • I need to sharpen my pencil? • Quickly and quietly go to sharpener without disturbing the class

Emergency Procedures • Fire Drill – quickly and quietly leave the room and exit building, proceed to the designated area • Code Red – remain in room until “all clear” signal; stay away from windows • Code Blue (Bomb Threat) – Do NOT use cell phones or other electronics; listen for announcements to evacuate • Code Yellow (Hazmat) – remain indoors unless otherwise directed; keep doors and windows closed • Code Green (Severe Weather/Tornado) – quickly and quietly leave room and assume the tornado position in the hall (facing the walls)

Grading… • Assignments – you will have classwork and homework a few days per week • Classwork and Homework will be checked for completion and accuracy • You MUST have a minimum of 70% on classwork/homework assignments in order to take unit assessments (tests) • Report card grade will be an average of unit/district and performance assessments • All assessments will carry the same weight and be graded on a percentage system

Remediation/ECI • Mandatory if you receive BELOW a “C” on any assessment • Optional if you receive a “C” or “B” on an assessment • Tuesday’s during lunch – get your lunch and report to this classroom • After two opportunities to re-test • “A” through “D” – will stay as your grade • “F” – lose an elective and attend Odyssey lab until requirement is met

  27. Labs, Labs and Labs • During the school year, you will completing many Labs (more in adv classes) • These will be “full blown” labs including lab write ups. • Among these labs include: Calorimeter (ADV only) Net Force Balloon Lab Wind Energy Lab Bottle Rocket Lab CSI/Forensics Lab

  28. Binder Set-Up • You should have a 3-ring binder (1 inch) • Sections include: • Handouts • Vocabulary • Notes • Class-work • Homework

  29. Student of the Month • Will take place in each class, once a month. • Students will be judged on attendance, participation, behavior, and grades • There will be a prize for each student of the month.
