  3. DoN Current Practices • HAZMIN • Pollution Prevention • P2 for Compliance • DoD Measures of Merit • Air, Water, Solid Waste, Hazardous Waste, etc

  4. DoN Results • Hazardous Waste Disposal • (CY92-CY03) • Toxic Releases (TRI) • (CY94-CY99) • Solid Waste Diversion • (CY03) 74% 76% 45%

  5. Success Story • NSA Bahrain • Recycled >1,500 tons of HM • Saved > $3M • >50% reduction in HW

  9. EMS Success Story • NAS Joint Reserve Base Willow Grove • EMS reviewed in May 04 • Found to be very good • Recycling efforts netted >$50K

  10. Navy CHRIMP • Consolidated HAZMAT Reutilization , Inventory and Management Program • Cradle to Grave management of HAZMAT within Navy • Currently transitioning to regional level • Possible future transition to departmental level

  11. CHRIMP Status • 140 Navy Installations being “CHRIMPed” • 40 Installations complete • ECD 2008 • NAVSUP is working on plan to go ‘regional’

  12. CHRIMP Success Story • NSB New London • Manage HAZMAT for 63 tenants and USCGA • Annual Cost Avoidance > $1M/yr

  13. JEMMS • Joint Environmental Material Management Service • Cradle to Grave HAZMAT management across services • DLA partnered with Navy based on Navy success with CHRIMP • Currently being studied and implemented at specific areas
