  3. What is coveting? Psalm 10:2-3 In his arrogance the wicked man hunts down the weak, who are caught in the schemes he devises. He boasts of the cravings of his heart; he blesses the greedy and reviles the LORD. God forbids Coveting a craving or sinful desire…

  4. What is coveting? James 4:2 You want something but don’t get it. You kill and covet, but you cannot have what you want. You quarrel and fight. You do not have, because you do not ask God. God forbids Coveting …for something God doesn’t want us to have

  5. What is coveting? James 1:14-15 …but each one is tempted when, by his own evil desire, he is dragged away and enticed. Then, after desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and sin, when it is full-grown, gives birth to death. leads to sinful thoughts, words, and actions

  6. Key Point #1 Coveting is a craving or sinful desire for something God doesn’t want us to have, which may lead us to sinful words and actions.

  18. Key Point #3 By bringing me to faith, God has given me a new heart that loves God’s will and enables me to have holy desires.

  19. What is the result of my having both a sinful nature and a new heart? Galatians 5:17 For the sinful nature desires what is contrary to the Spirit, and the Spirit what is contrary to the sinful nature. They are in conflict with each other, so that you do not do what you want.

  22. Key Point #4 As a result of my having both a sinful nature and a new heart, constant battles go on in me between the two. Only as I grow in faith in Jesus will my new heart win more and more of these battles.

  23. Agree or Disagree? Because every Christian has a new man, a real Christian will think about and do more good things than bad.

  24. Explain why this statement is true… Because every person is born with a sinful nature, every Christian is capable of committing any sin.

  25. Evaluate… When one of the comic strips in the newspaper pictures a person with a devil on one shoulder urging him to do something bad and an angel on the other shoulder telling him to do something good, this is a good picture of the struggle that goes on in us between the sinful nature and the new heart.

  26. Lesson 20 God wants me not to covet, warning me about my sinful heart and its desires. He also gives me a new heart to fight these desires.
