Physical Characteristics • The Whale shark can be 50 feet long. • It has a flattened head and its mouth covers half the head. • The Whale shark’s back and sides are gray with white spots. • The belly of the Whale shark is pure white. • It has two dorsal fins and also a tail in the right angle position.   3. Where Does it Live? Whale sharks live in the Maldives near the equator (and also other places). Whale sharks love the warm waters in the Indian Ocean near the Maldives. They usually spend their time on the top of the water. I live in the Maldives near the equator!

  4. What Does it Eat? The whale shark eatskrill, shrimp, small fish, and squid. How Does it Get its Food? The whale shark gets its food by opening its mouth while swimming and the krill, shrimp, and small fish go inside the mouth. The whale shark eats the squid with a surprise attack.

  5. How Does it Protect Itself? • The whale shark protects itself by using small fish for bait. Then they have a time to swim away. This is a boy being frightened. The Whale shark must feel like him too, when it is near its predator. • The Whale shark can swim to a place where there is no predator after it.
