  1. The Giver Lit Circle Communities

  2. Your Group’s Mission • Now that you have completed your first meeting, spend some time evaluating and reflecting how well the expectations you created actually worked in your community. • To help with this process, you are going to get a chance to view your other peers’ community expectations (although some of you did not turn this in yet!). • Begin thinking about if/what you would like to change for the smoother functioning of your lit circle community.

  3. Community #1 • District 12 • Make sure you get your reading done on time.  Make sure your discussion questions are done.  No spoilers!  On task talking.  Do YOUR own job. • They would have to sit out of they don't follow the above rules.  Also, no snack that day. • We will all have hunger game nicknames. (I'm Effie, Emily's Katniss, Lindsay's Prim, and Haley's Clove)

  4. Community #2 • Name: PDMC first letter of our names • Rules: We all have to get our work done and participate in discussions, stay on topic • Consequences: They have to be the leader of discussions the rest of the week • We have a handshake to make us unique

  5. Community #3 • Our group name is: Blue J's; this is because Kyle, Delaney, and Sarah have blue eyes and since I'm the only one with brown eyes, the (Jay) part is actually the letter (J). • Rules: • Everyone must have their work done (unless they have a reasonable excuse). • Have your iPad everyday or on paper • You (or your work) must be present everyday 3. Consequnce: • If you don't do your work, the next time you have to do twice as many questions • If your not here or forget to send us your work, it's your own punishment for falling behind! 4. Uniqueness! • We are unique because we have a fun handskake.

  6. Community #4 Name: District 14 Because we isolate our selves (based off of the Hunger Games, it's the next district after 13 that is not knowen about) Da rulz Rules.                                                                                                             Punishment 1. All work must be completed by due date (write a paragraph on why they didnt do thier work) 2. Don't talk to other communities (can't talk unless told to by a member of the community) 3. Must have iPad ready for the group discussion (must redo missing assignment on paper)

  7. Community #5 BumbleBees- Because we work together and care about each other, and we carry our own weight. Rule Number 1-  Do not interrupt people while they are talking. Rule Number 2- Complete all your work on time. Rule Number 3- Bring all of your work to class. Rule Number 4- Make sure your ideas are backed up with evidence. Rule Number 5- Do not talk with other groups. Rule Number 6- Do not look at your iPad while others are talking. Consequences- 1- If you interrupt another person, then you cannot talk for 1 minute. 2- If you do not complete all of your work you are not allowed to participate. 3- If you do not bring your work you cannot discuss with the group members. 4- If your ideas are not backed up and do not have HOT skills, you have to do extra work for the next meeting. 5- If you are found talking with another group, then you will have to sit away from other groups and you will not get a snack. 6- Your iPad will be taken away from you. 4. We sting people if their work is not done.  We have the best honey (work).

  8. Community #6 1. Our community shall be named Iron Fist. We are named the Iron Fist because we believe strongly in the virtues of focusing and doing our best in our work and we shall not tolerate the disobeying of our rules. 2. Rules: -Off task behaviors and distractions shall be prohibited -No talking to other communities out of turn -All work must be done in the time given 3. Consequences: If you disobey the rules, you will be given one warning. If you continue to disobey the rules, then you shall be kicked out of the group for a certain amount of time to work independently on your work OR you should give an apology and promise to never do the offense again. 4. We are different from the other groups because we shall NOT tolerate rule breakers and we expect no missing work from any member. We are thus stricter than other groups on our policy and beliefs. Trademark: Banging our hand one our chest two times and then pointing your knuckles to our community member to our right/straight. We also simultaneously yell "Iron Fist!"

  9. Community #7 Name: Iron Fist Because like in the community of the giver, we shall uphold our rules very strictly like an Iron Fist. Rules: Off Task Behavior is prohibited You may not talk to other community's All work must be done on time Punishment: You are to leave the group until the work is done or an apology is given. You are given one warning, because an iron fist is strict. Difference: We are different because we do not tolerate rule breakers and plan on having no missing work for any community member. Handshake: Pounding chest twice with your right hand, then "air punching" the community member to your right. While saying the sylobols of "Iron Fist"

  10. Community #8 The Alpaca Pack: alpacas are our sacred animal and we named out city after these epic animals Rules: -never harm alpacas, punishment: thrown in a pit of emotionally unstable alpacas -get all work done by deadline, punishment: get extra work to finish by the next day -have quality work, punishment: take it home and fix it and redo it -remember your ipad, punishment: do all work on paper copy it to your ipad at home -if you are gone you are responsible to bring your work in the next day or email it to a group member the next day What Makes Us Unique -alpaca pack handshake

  11. Now what? • Now that you and your group members have experienced the running of your first meeting, AND had a chance to see how other communities are functioning, it is time to re-assess your “rules.” • Discuss and revise the rules that you created. A NEW person will be sharing the Google Doc today, so make sure that you all have the same information!
