  1. Soundtrack Production By Shaquille Paris Morgan

  2. Films • Films use sound to give of effects which would keep the audience entertained. There are different types of ways that they use sound within films such as: • Diagetic sounds – diagetic sounds are sound effects or music which is used to set the mood of the film. These sounds are visible on screen. • Non – Diagetic sounds – these sounds are not visible on screen, these are the sounds which builds up tension and sounds which the character in the film can’t hear. • Sound effects – the effect are sounds which have been add for example, if someone walks on a twig, and it snaps, that is the sound effect which would of been recorded by a Foley artists and add on. • Also voice, sound effects and music are very important elements of sound within a film because you hear them in different prospective. technological developments within films have also change quite a lot, because nowadays we can hear sound is surround sound, where you hear all different types of sound effects through different setting of speakers, such as 2.1, 5.1 and 7.1.

  3. Video • Video will also need sound for the same reason as a film, with some videos you can’t understand what the moving images are trying to put across, without a narrator or the character themselves speaking. It make it more enjoyable for the audience if they know what is going on.

  4. Television • the main concern for TV program would be that they won't need to spend to much time recording samples/sound effects for a program because they don't get a lot of time to make the program so the best way would be for the sound designer to uses the original sounds. These sounds will then help to express different moods and emotions within the program. • Most of the TV shows which we watch on a daily basic will use sounds in the same way as they would in films, but there are some similarity which will these important differences. All of the TV shows have quite a small budget so they would really get Foley artists to record the sounds that they need, they would either use a sound bank instead or the original sounds.

  5. Animation • for an animated program they will have to uses a wide range of sound effects/samples which will make the animations more realistic for the audience to be able to enjoy it. • The sounds which are used are very different to the sounds which we would use in TV shows and films because, all of the sound have to go through post-production. The sound design must always think very carefully about how they they characterise, because they need to make sure that the sounds and voices of a character is chosen properly so that the audience who are watching it will understand the characters.

  6. Studio and Location • The studio would need to a controlled environment were you can record all the different sounds because, if you are going to record sounds/sound effects you don’t want to have any interference by any other hand-held devices which could ruin the recording. • The location is an external source where you will go and find the best suitable place where Foley artists can go and record certain types of effects/noises, for there project.

  7. Web • A sound designer would be using a sound bank which is full of samples for the type of film/TV program which will being streamed over the web, because one of the main reasons are some computers can be slow and it will reduce the sound quality, they won't need to go out and create the sound effects because it would be a waste of time. • For web, the sound is not really as important as it would be if it was for a TV show or a film. this is because once you are streaming the video through the internet serves the quality will distort.

  8. Voiceover • The voiceover is a production sound technique this technique is used in television, radio, presentations and also in theatres. It’s a voice which is not part of the narrative, so it is then known an non-diegetic sound because the actors can’t hear it. This is also a pre-recorded, and it then gets placed on top of the video.

  9. Ambient sound • The ambient sound is all of the background noises which you hear, for example, in the news in the morning when they are doing the news outside the houses of parliament, you can hear all of the traffic going by in the background. Ambient sound is an important sound when it comes to films, there will be all different kinds of sounds such as, traffic on a busy road, or children running around in a playground.

  10. Music • Music is another sound which is used everywhere, you will find this in movies, radio, TV adverts and television shows. There is different types of music for different types of genre, and what it does is, it creates a mood, which could calm people down and make them feel relaxed, or it could be dramatic and keeps the audience on the edge of there seats.

  11. Sound Effects (SFX) • The sound effects are all the different types of sounds which Foley artists go and record with different objects. The sounds are used to help make a film/animated program much more realistic, most of the sound effects will have to go through post-production to be adjusted and make sure that it sounds realistic and also that its to a good quality.

  12. Non-diegetic • non-diegetic sounds are used a lot in movies to create suspense and tension with film. They are sounds which the character cannot hear and from an audiences view if it is a very up beat sound it makes them more excited intrigued to what is about to happen next.

  13. External diegetic • The external diegetic is a sound which is represented as coming from a physical source within the story, which we would also assume that the characters on scene could also hear which they can’t.

  14. hand-held devices • All types of hand-held devices are now equipped with small little speaker which sound can then be played very affectively. The speakers within the hand-held devices like phones for example, if you was to play songs or movies of the devices then the sounds will not give off the same effects as the speakers would so it will also sound destored.
