Britain • Originated here • Some factors for origination: • Agricultural practices changed (more people fed @ lower prices) • More food supply, larger population • Britain had much capital (money) to invest in new factories & warehouses. • Entrepenuers-people interested in starting new businesses

  4. I. Industrial Revolution cont’d • Plentiful resources (water supply, coal & iron) • A supply of markets provided an outlet for British goods

  5. II. Changes in Cotton Production • Cottage Industry- Spinners made thread from raw cotton weavers wove the thread into cloth in rural homes • Cottage industry eventually became ineffecient • Flying shuttlespinning jenny water powered loom steam powered machinery

  6. III. Coal and Iron Industry • Coal became popular due to the steam engine • Steam engine aided the growth of iron
