  2. - Born in Hungary in 1906. • As a child he was more interested in science than the arts. • Decided to go to school for medicine in 1925. • In 1927, he made the decision to pursue a career in art. • He used what he learned in science and math classes during studying medicine in his artworks. • He used geometric shapes to create optical illusions. • He began first creating these paintings in black and white and then moved into color. • One of the most famous artists in the Op Art Movement. • Style is characterized by BRIGHT VIBRANT COLORS geometric forms and suggestive movement. • Died in 1997. 1906-1997

  3. Op Art: Op art works are abstract, usually black and white or with bright contrasting colors. When the viewer looks at them, the impression is given of movement, hidden images, flashing and vibration, patterns, swelling or warping. Op is short for optical illusion. Thinking we see something that we don’t.  Optical= eyes ……. illusion= a trick
