  3. More About Nature • Genetics clearly controls many of the organism’s traits. • Heredity alone determines the type of person we become. • Genetics plays a role in determining personality and behavior.

  4. Evidence • Iowa first adoption study • Adopted individuals born to incarcerated female offenders had a higher rate of criminal convictions as adults. • Sweden study • Adopted children with biological background for criminality showed increase rick of criminal behavior.

  5. More Proof • Boston University study • Identical twins were more likely to follow the same patterns of divorce. • Twin study • If genetics didn’t play a part, twins raised together would be exactly the same. • Twins raised apart would be completely different.

  6. Twins • Similarities in character but different environments. • Different inherited genes can explain behavior. • Not affected by the environment’s influences.

  7. Story about Twins • The Farah twins were separated at age eight • Mo was sent to UK with father • Hassan stayed with mother in Somalia • Same interest in running and sports • MO had some twin girls,Aisha and Amani

  8. Jim L and Jim S • Separated at birth • Reunited at age 39 • Both had a dog named Toy • Each bit fingernails • At age 18 suffered from a headache syndrome • Married twice first a Linda and then Betty

  9. Based on Nature • “Parenting is the number one influence on a child’s success or failure in life.” • Parenting is not the number one influence. • Based on the genetic make-up of every child. • Heredity determines physical traits and everything else.
