Why have a support group? • This year again the demand for dementia training has continued to increase but also the request for training which is more than an awareness-raising course • Many organisations, managers and trainers are working in isolation when developing training resources. Networking with others will ensure a better understanding and benchmark quality • Training and learning will need to be sustainable, by working together this could be better achieved

  3. Terms of Reference AIM To support the development of a range of learning resources to ensure the delivery of a sustainable training programme, which meets the needs of the care sector. Objectives To analyse baseline data to monitor the learning needs of the sector Avoid duplication of work by sharing materials and resources To use the forum to problem solve and share good practice To keep up to date with current ideas and practices To evaluate how the local training programmes are meeting the needs of the sector

  4. Membership • Caerphilly and Blaenau Gwent Social Services • Independent and Voluntary Sector (*Cardiff) • Range of service areas and of job roles • Managers • Trainers • Informal Carers Currently have 20 members

  5. Action Plan Objective To analyse baseline data to monitor the learning needs of the sector Map range of learning needs Consider how best to meet demand Monitor demand for QCF dementia units

  6. Action Plan Objective Avoid duplication of work by sharing materials and resources Have a list of resources available for: Trainer Social Services and Partnership QCF dementia units Promote awareness of resources

  7. Action Plan Objective To use the forum to problem solve and share good practice Share identified good practice within the partnership Record problems solved and share Publish a newsletter

  8. Action Plan Objective To keep up to date with current ideas and practices Have a list of useful links Identify possible events to update practice Share expertise within the group

  9. Action Plan Objective To evaluate how the local training programmes are meeting the needs of the sector Identify what is learning is available to meet local demand Promote awareness of available training Promote awareness of QCF dementia qualifications Devise evaluation tools for dementia training
