  16. Update on Worship Task Group We met in - August September November February

  17. Early on we attempted to clarify our responsibilities and boundaries, with reference to the handouts and the Kevin Dilks’ planning day. We began by exploring ideas from “Giving our Best in Worship” by David Pope. We discussed what helps build a “worshipful” atmosphere and what detracts from worship. Also what our community and congregations look like?

  18. The two key points were that 1. we will strive to be welcoming and inclusive to all, 2. to offer worship which reflects God’s worth

  19. We have decided for now not to split into subgroups to deal with different service/worship activities but to work together in one group. We have supported the minister with special services e.g. Christmas services. As well as the Family and Youth Task group with the special service in September outreaching to playgroup, Kid’s church families etc connected with our church.

  20. We had tried to promote connection between the different services and worship activities. We initiated the combined Covenant service a couple of weeks ago where we shared in communion together. We would like to further explore opportunities to worship and fellowship together as a church family. We are planning to promote an informal picnic lunch following the next combined service in March.

  21. Primarily, we have focused on the 9.30 service and have been trying to address some of the issues raised by the congregation. These include some organisational issues around setup and music. We have worked with Charles and Andrew around the coordination of rosters. We have been working towards encouraging more people to become involved in service. A training workshop was held for those serving communion and those wishing to become servers.

  22. We have nominated Charlotte as the key contact person for all matters relating to the sound system. She has organised meeting with “sound” people. With support of Council, we have purchased new bibles for the church.

  23. Other issues • Summary of key council decisions to be placed in notices post council meetings • Communication between task groups – • Combined service – 5th Sunday – for communion for discussion as appropriate • Communication with office – roster (charles). Admin team to get together to discuss handling of emails

  24. Mission – paper provided • One meeting to date • List of mission orgs church involved with • Newsletters back of church • Postcards – 500 • Mission impossible • More people involved

  25. Difficulty with level of involvement – people highly committed • Council initiate or task group – budget or policy to council

  26. Update to council regularly – updates to be sent to council contact and secretary – doesn’t need to be formal • Council to have standing item to note and act as appropriate on reports

  27. Community life • 3 coordinators • Over 80’s dinner – need volunteers – 1 march 6:30 • Communication – potentially conflicting activities • Co-ordination of what is in the pipeline – 6 month planner? Or 8 month planner council – to co-ordinate – tasks groups to provide input.

  28. Vision Statement of WCUC 2010 We are a community of Christian people committed to making Christ and His love known in the wider community by , individually and together, reflecting His character and continuing His ministry.

  29. Aspirations 1 • Look after current people • External contacts opportunities for outreach • Welcomes everybody • Church service setup to be smoother • More worshipful services

  30. Aspirations 2 • Advertising more prominent • What do we do Well? • Playgroups; young family groups • Other churches pool resources – youth group • Where can we go rather come to our Church

  31. Aspirations 3 • Notice board more use for other than services • Nurturing our own • Small groups advertising and nurturing

  32. Priority Key themes • Advertising • Canberra Child magazine & Banners & throw away newspapers • Big notice board • website • Nurturing our own – identify needs • Work with Molonglo community group • Welcome to 8.00am & 9.30am service • Feedback mechanism
