TT-PET Meeting

This document provides updates on the TOWER thermal simulations discussed in the TT-PET Meeting on April 28th, 2016. The simulations include the effect of replacing SiO2 with a flexible material, cooling pipes, heat dissipation areas, and the use of water cooling. Future outlooks and proposals for improving the design are also discussed.

  1. Updates on TOWER thermal simulations TT-PET Meeting April 28th, 2016 Sebastien Michal Franck Cadoux This follows the firstsimulationspresentedby Sebastien on the 21st of April… Check the effect of replacing the SiO2 by a flex… DPNC, Tower simulation

  2. SiO2 • CAD model • No adhesive in between the layers • 1 sideforcooling Bismuth Silicon Heat dissipated area 24 W on silicon 2 mm TT-PET Meeting Updates on TOWER thermal simulations Cooling pipes 1.3 mm ID 0.1 mm WT 6 cm 5mm Loaded epoxy K = 1.4 W.m-1.k-1 DPNC, Tower simulation

  3. REMINDER: Last weekresults (using ANSYS, Sebastien) Watercooling at 5°C Heattransfercoefficient: 1000 W.m-2.k-1 24 W heatflux, the side bloc is in Al2O3 (20 W/m.K) TT-PET Meeting Updates on TOWER thermal simulations 4°C ∆T on detector…1°C is requested at first DPNC, Tower simulation

  4. Resultswith Abaqus (slightly different channelshape) Watercooling at 5°C Heattransfercoefficient: 1000 W.m-2.k-1 24 W heatflux, the side bloc is in Al2O3 (20 W/m.K) TT-PET Meeting Updates on TOWER thermal simulations DPNC, Tower simulation

  5. Resultswith Abaqus (slightly different channelshape) SiO2 Bismuth TT-PET Meeting Updates on TOWER thermal simulations Si detector Si Chip (heatgenerator) Epoxy glue DPNC, Tower simulation

  6. Resultswith Abaqus (slightly different channelshape) Watercooling at 5°C Heattransfercoefficient: 1000 W.m-2.k-1 24 W heatflux, the side bloc is in Al2O3 (20 W/m.K) 2.5°C ∆T on detector…1°C is requested at first TT-PET Meeting Updates on TOWER thermal simulations From 16 to 18.5 °C DPNC, Tower simulation

  7. Resultswith Abaqus (check with SiO2 replacement…) Watercooling at 5°C Heattransfercoefficient: 1000 W.m-2.k-1 24 W heatflux, the side bloc is in Al2O3 (20 W/m.K) 2.5°C ∆T on detector…1°C is requested at first TT-PET Meeting Updates on TOWER thermal simulations About the same as before… DPNC, Tower simulation

  8. Outlooks… • Estimate by hand calculation the h coeffgiven the velocity thru the channels… with Water. • Estimate the Delta T between Inlet and Outlet…so far this is neglected in FEA! • Propose some overall manifolding design …to limit the above delta T (Inlet/Outlet) • Why not trying with a first aluminum 3D printed cooling block?
