DEAFLINCS INTRODUCTION DeafLincs is a County Wide Charity providing support for anyone with any level of hearing loss Our Main Office is in Sleaford We have a Resource Centre for Acquired Deafness in Lincoln We have 3 Operational Departments – Children’s Service, Deaf Adult Service (BSL Users) & Acquired Deafness

DEAFLINCS CHILDREN’S SERVICE • Supports children & families from early diagnoses of hearing loss • Diagnoses of deafness usually within first week of birth • Initially supports communication in family, especially where there is hearing parents/siblings • Supports educational needs and development

DEAFLINCS DEAF ADULT SERVICE • Supports profoundly Deaf Sign Language (BSL) Users • Provides BSL Interpreting Services • Provides Personal Support & Advocacy for such things as form filling, understanding letters and related support for official documents • Provides Personal Support for Social outlet

DEAFLINCS • ACQUIRED DEAFNESS SERVICE • Supports people with acquired deafness to overcome day to day issues with hearing loss • Helps people come to terms with their recent hearing loss • Is usually aimed at hearing aid users • Provides support to Independent living • Works with many other Agencies & Organisations included Residential care, Sheltered housing, Community Support Services & Advocacy Groups

DEAFLINCS • ACQUIRED DEAFNESS SERVICE (continued) • DeafLincs are contracted by LCC to provide these services • ADS service supports people throughout Lincolnshire • 83% of ADS Service Users are over 65 • 88% of ADS work is assessing & providing LCC provided environmental aids to support day to day living • Most assessment work is done in the Service Users home

DEAFLINCS ACQUIRED DEAFNESS SERVICE (continued) • Information Days are held in Sheltered & Residential homes to advise groups of hearing impaired people of help available. • Equipment is provided on a free loan from LCC through Nottm Rehab Services (NRS). • Equipment, Delivery & Fitting is free for a selected catalogue range of equipment. • ADS works closely with ULH NHS Trusts Audiology Services

DEAFLINCS EQUIPMENT • The following equipment is available through LCC : - • INDUCTION LOOP SYSTEMS • VIBRATING / FLASHING LIGHT SMOKE ALARM • FLASHING LIGHT PORTABLE DOORBELLS • PHONEFLASH • PERSONAL LISTENERS • INFRARED TV LISTENERS • VIBRATING PILLOW ALARM CLOCKS • ADVICE CAN BE GIVEN ON SUITABLE AMPLIFIED TELEPHONES BUT THESE ARE NOT PROVIDED FREE

DEAFLINCS REFERRALS • Referrals can be made directly to Deaflincs by an Agency / Organisation (with Service Users permission) • They can also be made directly by the Service User, Relative or Carer to DeafLincs • Following Information is needed : - • SU Full Name • SU Address & Contact Telephone Number • SU Date of Birth • SU GP / Surgery Name • Brief details of the help required

  10. DEAFLINCS STATISTICS • Population of Lincs = 640,000 (approx) • Total Deaf Population = 100,000 • BSL Users = 500 – 700 • Mild Loss = 66% • Moderate Loss = 25% • Profound Loss = 9%
