  3. Initial 4D: context • Initial 4D is a pragmatic & ambitious stepping stone towards SESAR 2020 concept • It is a concept, which is IP2 in SESAR master plan, and with Initial Operating Capability in 2013 • Objective is to bring, a good part of the 4D trajectory benefits foreseen in SESAR, for forward fit and retrofit, by taking benefit of existing technology, with acceptable cost • It is to be deployed on a voluntary basis, therefore it has to ensure mixed mode • Initial 4D includes in particular: • 4DTRAD • Queue management using CTA techniques Use menu "View - Header & Footer" for Presentation title - Siglum - Reference

  4. Initial 4D: context • 4DTRAD is making good progress • In Datalink User Group (DUG) 4DTRAD concept has been finalized • In SC214/WG78, 4DTRAD OSED is in final stage • During last plenary Airbus, with the support of Honeywell, GE, and Thales proposed to bring navigation expertise in SC214/WG78 to work on Initial 4D, and support 4DTRAD Use menu "View - Header & Footer" for Presentation title - Siglum - Reference

  5. Status of Initial 4D validation • Initial 4D takes benefit of a wide range of projects dealing with the use on CTA • PHARE, AFAS, …. • Latest validation results come from: • NUP2+, CASSIS • RTA performance demonstration • OSED adapted to different TMA environment • TMA 2010+ real time simulation • AMAN with CTA and speed advisory capability • Study of the management of traffic in mix mode by ATC • Episode 3 • Real time simulation of I4D on EUROCAT-Cockpit simulation • Eurocontrol-Airbus I4D fast time study • AURORA • Study of meteo impact on Aircraft time management • BRIDGET, ….. Use menu "View - Header & Footer" for Presentation title - Siglum - Reference

  6. Navigation aspects in SC214 / WG78 • Airbus with the support of Honeywell, GE, and Thales Avionics proposes to launch an Initial 4D navigation Sub Group of EUROCAE/RTCA SC214 / WG78 with the objectives to: • Support 4DTRAD for subjects related to Navigation • Define a consistent set of requirements and assumptions regarding Initial 4D navigations aspects to support validation • This proposal was coordinate with other partners • Eurocontrol supports the activity but wants to open discussion on the best way forward on navigation aspects • Thales ATM agrees in principle but wants to take benefit of our discussions to have the full picture • We would appreciate having SC214/WG78 position during this plenary to avoid unnecessary loss of time with respect to navigation activities Use menu "View - Header & Footer" for Presentation title - Siglum - Reference

  7. Why 4DTRAD needs Nav expertise? • Feasibility of 4DTRAD operational concept depends on the answering of following questions: • How do ATC operator manage mix mode in TMA, for instance on a merging point? • How to ensure that RTA speed variation due to wind uncertainty are acceptable from ATC perspective? • What is feasible regarding RTA robustness to meteo uncertainties? what is the wind and temp quality standard to ensure capacity to fly RTA? • How do you ensure that the downlinked ETAmin /ETAmax include operational acceptable range (for instance max acceptable CI from airline)? • Need to cover the case where RTA speed change generate fuel issue? Use menu "View - Header & Footer" for Presentation title - Siglum - Reference

  8. Why 4DTRAD needs Nav expertise? • To have a 4DTRAD SPR with good maturity the following questions would need to be answered: • What, and how data should be exchanged, to ensure ground has “what if” capability with sufficient precision? • Downlink of ETAmin/max data on 1 Waypoint? Aircraft performance database exchange? • What are the requirement for meteo data uplink to aircraft? • Need to uplink meteo data at the beginning of the 4DTRAD service? What is the update frequency? • Standardisation of meteo quality depending on RTA requirements? • What is the performance of the “RTA performance monitoring” function in Aircraft and on Ground Use menu "View - Header & Footer" for Presentation title - Siglum - Reference

  9. Why doing I4D Nav in SC214 / WG78? • The objective is to deliver a unique Air-ground solution including an Aircraft avionic package capable of the new navigation and communication function • If navigation aspects are performed in a different body there will probably be different assumptions, timing, constraint management. There could also be resource conflict, which will delay progress. • To reach the best efficiency, it is important to gather in the same structure the most relevant experts to deal with 4D navigation and communication aspects • SC214 / WG78 has a good momentum on 4DTRAD which is necessary to meet SESAR master plan Use menu "View - Header & Footer" for Presentation title - Siglum - Reference

  10. What about Nav standardisation in general for IP2/IP3? • Initial 4D Navigation subgroup will only deal with subjects linked to initial 4D: • RNAV-RNP and VNAV-VRNP aspects linked to airspace design are not directly in the scope • Initial 4D Navigation subgroup will use as the reference the existing standardization material, ED-75B/DO-236B, which is already providing very valuable basement • It is expected that a new EUROCAE/RTCA WG will open on general navigation aspects for IP2. When this happens: • All I4D Nav production will be used as an input • I4D Nav SG will become a joint SG with NAV WG in order to achieve also navigation consistency • This proposition enables to keep the pace of Initial 4D with navigation support, without loosing consistency on Navigation aspects Use menu "View - Header & Footer" for Presentation title - Siglum - Reference

  12. Proposed working organisation • Launch a specific Sub group of SC214/WG78 with Navigation experts from airside and groundside: • Objectives are: • To support 4DTRAD for specific Navigation expertise • To include in the 4DTRAD SPR a standardization proposals for the navigation aspects of I4D so as to have a full set of requirements to support I4D validation • 1rst step: • Drafting team to deliver quickly 1rst draft of Nav annex of OSED/SPR for large review, thanks to existing validation activities • Deliverables: • Interim Annex OSED/SPR with Navigation specificities for validation input • Final Annex OSED/SPR with Navigation specificities Use menu "View - Header & Footer" for Presentation title - Siglum - Reference

  13. Proposed working organisation • Functional scope of this sub group • Specific subjects supporting 4DTRAD • Time prediction performance requirements • Directly linked with Meteorological aspects • RTA (Required Time of Arrival) functional & performance requirements • Directly linked with Meteorological aspects • Air-ground trajectory prediction requirements • How to ensure What if capacity on ground • Definition of Aircraft performance data base package • Air-ground Conformance monitoring Use menu "View - Header & Footer" for Presentation title - Siglum - Reference
