CAP • CAP was formed from the merger of four alcohol treatment centers in 1979: • Cadet Center, Care House, Alf Cox Fellowship House, and Hope Haven • CAP operates the area’s only adult short term crisis residential program for the treatment of drug and/or alcohol addiction. CAP is also the 2nd largest provider of adolescent outpatient and intensive outpatient substance abuse treatment in the state of Alabama and is one of the largest adult intensive outpatient service providers in the state.

CAP is certified by the Department of Mental Health and Mental Retardation Substance Abuse Services Division CAP was the first substance abuse treatment program in the state of Alabama to require all of its therapists to hold a master’s degree from an accredited college or university. Twenty-seven (27) of our employees hold a master’s degree or higher in a clinical area with a clinical practicum. Additionally, three (3) employees hold professional licenses and four (4) are currently pursuing licensure.

Adult Criminal and Juvenile Justice Systems Collaborations • CAP has been serving Montgomery County Community Corrections Drug Court clients since 1997 • On-Site assessments and treatment services are provided five days a week for incarcerated men in the Montgomery Municipal Jail • 240 juveniles referred from the Montgomery County Youth Facility by circuit court judges, JPO’s, and the Youth Detention Center received assessments, treatment and/or drug testing services in 2008 • Other important collaborations include: • Montgomery Area Court Referral Program, Inc. • PreTrial Diversion • State Probation & Parole • U.S. District Court, Middle District of Alabama Federal Probation Office

Drug Testing Services • CAP performs approximately 6000 tests annually for clients enrolled in our treatment program. • CAP utilizes a comprehensive substance abuse testing method using state-of-the-art equipment that has been recognized by the federal court system to be highly accurate and reliable. • Urinalysis and hair follicle testing services are also provided for individuals referred by the juvenile and criminal justice system, not for profit organizations, private corporations, and walk-in’s from the general public. • Certified staff members specializing in drug testing services are available Monday thru Friday to meet the needs of our clientele. • Urinalysis results are normally available within 24 hours of the specimen collection and hair follicle results within a week.

  11. Motivational interviewing is a directive, client-centered counseling style for eliciting behavior change by helping clients to explore and resolve ambivalence.

  13. The Matrix Model has been approved by Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) and the National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA) as an evidence-based best practices model of alcohol and drug treatment.

  14. Adult Intensive Outpatient ProgramMatrix IOP Model Conducted in three (3) phases. Phase I – Early Recovery Skills Clients learn how to deactivate a craving and develop skills and strategies for coping with “triggers” to use and high crisis situations. Phase II – Relapse Prevention This phase focuses on applying the tools of recovery, understanding and managing thoughts, feelings and actions, anger management, and the development of more effective communication skills and a solid recovery network. Phase III – Continuing Care This phase re-enforces the necessity and benefits of self help support groups, focuses on the development of better ways to handle daily frustrations and alternatives to previous self-defeating behaviors.
