Virtual Worlds I: Second Life 101 Second Life: • Launched by Linden Labs in 2003 • 3D virtual world with built-in modeling (CAD) tools and Linden Scripting Language • Not a game (per se): connect, communicate and collaborate (also conduct commerce!) • Been in Second Life since 2006, taken over 500 students inworld for different classes • Basic membership FREE, Premium $75/year

  5. Virtual Worlds I: Second Life 101 To use Second Life you need: • Account/Avatar • Second Life Viewer (check system requirements!) Go to www.secondlife.com and click: • “Join Now” to create account/avatar. • “Download Second Life” to download viewer. (Version 1.23 recommended to start.)
