The Vision The overarching goal of AIMS PK-16 is to close achievement gaps in math preparation of students K-12 and prepare students for success in college level math courses by the time they graduate from high school through vertical alignment, professional development, challenging curriculum, use of information technology and research on strategies and interventions.

Goal 1 Enhance professional learning for PreK-16 administrators, PK-12 teachers, higher education faculty and counselors Goal 2 Provide a challenging curriculum for all students Goal 3 Enhance the applications of technology for instruction and collaboration Goal 4 Conduct research on the effectiveness of interventions

AIMS PreK-16 Model • Focus on structured professional development • Provide coaching, mentoring, and follow-up • Emphasize the use of instructional technology • Assess teacher progress in implementing and internalizing professional development • Promote student enrollment in advanced mathematics

  10. Indications of Success • All Partnering ISDs showed gains in overall district average passing percentages on TAKS for grades 3-11. • One ISDs had a double-digit increase. • Average passing percentage on TAKS for AIMS Partner ISDs exceeded average passing percentage for ISDs in Region II.

Future Directions • Professional development to address content, grade level, campus, and/or district driven by analysis of student achievement data. • Engaging all partner districts’ teachers who have not participated in AIMS or other comparable PD. • Engaging Higher Education faculty members.

  13. Future Directions Continued • Capacity building (Institutionalization). • Nurturing and developing teacher leaders within each district and on each campus. • Training teacher leaders to be observers using the MAS-COPS instrument. • Training Trainers for TEXTEAMS, AgileMind, and Geometer’s Sketchpad. • Training teacher leaders to be mentors and coaches.

Future Directions Continued • Continue to engage parents in math activities within each district on the individual campuses. • Continue to engage the community in the importance of mathematics achievement, the preparation of all students for college level work, and the preparation of future teachers. • Continue to keep the lines of communication open and flowing with conversations to improve student achievement through teacher empowerment.
