  2. History • It was one of the first Cathedral in North America • Originally built on it’s site in 1647 • Destroyed twice by a fire, and rebuilt on it’s original foundation by the architect’s plan • Sanctuary lamp a gift from Louis XIV delight visitors

Information • Guests can take guided tours of the basilica and its crypts • The final resting place of former bishops of the Québec diocese and four of Québec governors • Franois de Laval, Québec's first bishop and he lies in the funeral chapel • It has a gold-plated main altar that shimmers and stained glass windows that came from Paris and Munich

  4. The Crypt • Between 1654 and 1898 over 900 people were buried under the cathedral • In 1923 reconstruction of the church was being done and the crypt was summarily built and was completed in 1952

  5. The Tomb of Mgr. de Laval • Mgr. de Laval, founder of the Canadian Church, was the first bishop of Québec • An animation centre about his life and works is situated in the cathedral close to the funeral chapel built in dedication to him. • In May of 1993 the remains of were moved to this funeral chapel.
